Subject: RE: Tune Req: Shepherd's Purse From: maeve Date: 30 Aug 16 - 02:54 PM leeneia, I'd love to hear a tune as described here by you. I hope you'll write "The Shepherd's Purse" when you can! |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Shepherd's Purse From: leeneia Date: 30 Aug 16 - 11:55 AM Yet the world could use a dance tune called The Shepherd's Purse. Here's a picture of the plant: http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/weeds/plants/shepherd_purse.htm We see jagged leaves in a circle with a tall, spindly flower stalk. Clearly we need a jig or reel which mostly zigzags back on itself but has one place where the melody zips way high to evoke the flower stalk. I'd write it, but my sound card is fried. ====== Rodge, it appears you can find sheet music and abc online is you omit the word Waltz. Search for "The Shepherd's Wife." |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Shepherd's Purse From: GUEST,Flush Date: 29 Aug 16 - 04:17 PM if it was the middle earth upstairs in the afternoon we played a waltz called the Shepherd Wife waltz, might have been that one, you can check it out on youtube |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Shepherd's Purse From: GUEST,Rodge Date: 29 Aug 16 - 04:08 PM It may have been in the Middle Earth - not sure |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Shepherd's Purse From: Jack Campin Date: 29 Aug 16 - 03:31 PM Not in Michael Raven's book either. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Shepherd's Purse From: GUEST,Flush Date: 29 Aug 16 - 03:13 PM Which session were you in at Whitby when you heard it? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Shepherd's Purse From: Jack Campin Date: 29 Aug 16 - 01:40 PM Not in Gore's Scottish Fiddle Tune Index. Who played it? You could try the National Tune Index fiche if it's pre-1800. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Shepherd's Purse From: leeneia Date: 29 Aug 16 - 11:27 AM I did some checking, Rodge. Didn't find it. Googled it Checked abcnotation.com Checked The Session. The Session has some discussion, but it doesn't lead to a tune. https://thesession.org/discussions/38678 ======== Are you aware that shepherd's purse is a weed? The title has a tongue-in-cheek air to it which makes me suspect the tune is contemporary. |
