A fantastic 'folk' on 2 last night featuring Whitby folk festival, with live performances and chat from stalwarts of the festival, the Wilson family and other guests - Steve Tilston, Dovetail Trio and a song from Marry Waterson in a church near Robin Hoods Bay. Well Done to Radio 2 and Smooth Operations.

I must agree. For once I listened to the whole show and enjoyed every performance. I normally get about 3 songs in and decide either their interpretation of what is folk music is far too wide for me, or am put off by the highly commercial superstars overproduced and insincere.

Not to mention apppearances of Alistair Anderson with his concertina and Thomas McCarthy singing!

Both always a delight and the presenter did us the extra favour of giving them time to talk thoughtfully about their music.

Yes I listened too! Some extra songs here and there as inserts as I reckon for quality control ~ song from Gavin Davenport and Dave Burland with backing (who wasn't actually there) ~ however BBC programme gave a pretty fair account of the enthusiasm and all encompassing talent and grass roots involvement reflecting practice by all ~ singers, instrumentalists and morris and other dancers
