I'm always looking for young acts to feature on air in North Yorkshire. They don't have to come from God's own county. If they are looking after our tradition in The States or UK and are performing it well, then I am interested, whether they are already well known or not.

Granny's Attic immediately comes to mind, but there are others. Cohen is on the show in November I think.

At the other prog folk rock end of the spectrum there is Stark from Brighton.

I am open to suggestions and I do listen to promos.

For a promo address, email: fab@vale-radio.com

I read your first line, UT, and immediately thought of Granny's Attic and lo and behold there they were in the second line.

Cohen is the future for me! He gets better every time I hear him. He has a bright future solo or with Granny's attic.

I first knew him a superb fiddler at a local session, but he plays other instruments and was at Chester festival sessions with another young fiddler.

Another one. Close harmony trio 'Said the Maiden' from St Albans.

Recorded them at The Festival on the Moor last year. Brilliant!

I am enjoying the preview clips of Nick Hart's upcoming mini-album, 'Nick Hart Sings Eight English Folk Songs'. There's a lot of Jasper Smith in his singing in my opinion - not every day I get to say that!

Both Blackbeards Tea Party and Said the Maiden have been around for a while now and are definitely on the mature side compared, say, with this year's Newcastle graduates. It all depends on your definition of "younger". Under 25? Under 30? Under 35?

Granny's Attic was my first thought as well.

Are they mature, are they? God I am old! Still great though.
Yes, Granny's Attic are excellent.

Chester Festival have an event for young musicians. Trouble is I would need a mask to get in (though my granddaughter promised me 'smooth skin' so that I could be 'young again'). I expect they all know each other, well kept secret.

Not really new performers, as they've been around for a fair while, but:

The Carrivick Sisters

Gilmore and Roberts

Cardboard Fox (which is the Carrivick sisters plus 2, essentially):

Cardboard Fox At The Bell

....noisy audience but gives you a flavour.

Cohen ? I'm automatically suspicious of people who think they are so famous they only need one name.

He may well be very good but I've never heard of him.

Dave, two posters referred to Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne by his first name, but I don't know if the artist in question promotes himself which just his first name. His website uses his full name in all titles and banners.

And by the way, when I first read the thread title "The Younger Generation", I thought it was about a successor for "The Young Generation"...

Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne is such a mouthful that he opted for his first name only. It's not about putting on airs and graces or thinking he's already 'famous' what ever that means. He has everything going for him, and I will be there at the Grove in Leeds in November. Can't wait. I did my first folk club gig in 1974 when I was about his age. It takes a lot to get me excited about a performer now days, but Cohen is the man for me.

"Two's Company" are a duo from Sheffield who won the open mike at Shrewsbury last year.

Just about to launch a Cd and we've booked them for our club at Seagrave, Leics on 23rd Sept.
