No worries, Frey. I'm not brilliant with words meself. Johnny is a good friend and a great exponent of the genre, a major influence on me I would say. Spent a lot of time in your neck of the woods in the 60s and 70s. Stayed at the Blackgate a few times when Stefan was there. Tommy and Alastair are also mates, Benny Graham and a host of others. The Newcastle gang and the Hull gang used to run a joint folk camp at Potto on the Moors in the late 60s/early 70s.

What I meant to say was that traditional folk music must sound like a crew of English corsairs singing ballads. I'm not very good with wording things, but you should know what I mean. I very much like The Northern Sinfonia because I think that Northumbrian music is as traditional as it gets; along with Johnny Handle & Thomas Allen, they are my favourites. Aye, that is a biased statetment, but that's because I'm Northumbrian myself. I wager that you'd say the same about American music, because you're American yourself. Anything else you'd like to say?

Perhaps prejudice is too strong a word but you don't explain what you are about very clearly.

As for contradiction, in what sense do Arthur Sullivan and The Northern Sinfonia have a connection with folk. Perhaps it's just that I haven't heard of TNS. Is it a folk group?

This is also compounded by your statement, 'is as traditional as it gets'. I'm just a little bemused and confused; I'm not trying to be picky.

Aa'lreet lad, what kind of "prejudice" are you speaking of? Is it because I said that country music is bollocks? When I say "country music", I mean the type where the rednecks sing about girls & tractors; the stereotypical "country" type. I'm just a grumpy old Englishman, so don't listen to me.

Traditional folk music must sound like it was recorded in the Middle Ages or Victorian Era, which the vast majority of my playlist contains. Instruments such as the fiddle, accordion, harmonica, cello, reed, horn or saxophone are essential for giving off that "traditional" vibe. My intent is not to offend you, but rather to express my opinion. Farewell lad :)

Aa'lreet lads. I've noticed that this is a folk-forum, therefore I shall contribute greatly.

I have a playlist called "Frey's favourites" on my youtube channel- Frey Visthaer. Just type my name (frey visthaer) into google search, it will certainly show my channel. I add songs to my playlist randomly~

My splendid playlist contains folk music from various folk artists such as:
*Johnny Handle
*Thomas Allen
*The Northern Sinfonia
*Arthur Sullivan
*A.L. Lloyd
*Ewan MacColl
*Warren Fahey
*The High Level Ranters
*The Dreadnoughts
*The Irish Rovers

It also contains folk soundtracks from the masterpieces "Fantastic Mr.Fox" & "Pirates of The Carribbean".

The folk music that is found in my playlist is as traditional as it gets, with the exeption of The Dreadnoughts (which are polka-rock). There is no "country music" or any other redneck bollocks in my splendid playlist; there is only true folk music.

I would often debate other wankers on the youtube comment threads.
