Subject: Latcheyco From: Philippa Date: 10 Dec 99 - 04:06 PM Latcheyco - Do you remeber what thread contained a song with this word in it? About the latcheyco kid who comes out the best in the end. Today a friend of mine happened to mention that Sinn Féin pres. Gerry Adams used this word in addressing the Northern Ireland Assembly. My informant had been amused by the foreign journalists present not understanding the word. "It means a buck eedjit, " he said ['idiot' being the standard English], "Me da used to say that all the time. You wouldn't hear it so much today, but." As far as I can gather, some of Adams' opponents were interrupting him and he said something to the effect, "If those latchicos would just hush up and let me continue...." Perhaps someone else who actually heard the coverage from the assemby can give a better account. And maybe someone can find the thread in which the song with this word was discussed. |

Subject: RE: Latcheyco From: Brakn Date: 10 Dec 99 - 08:39 PM Philippa, I could be totally wrong, but I thought latchico meant "Black Sheep". I've got the words to a song called "The Latchico" if you want them. Regards Mick Bracken |
