Subject: RE: can you i.d. this french song From: GUEST,Mg Date: 27 Oct 16 - 06:16 AM Thanks..seems i have asked about this song before. It might be from arcadia. Is it safe to assume it could be about cod? I would like to include on cod cd. It is so pretty. |
Subject: RE: can you i.d. this french song From: GUEST,Senoufou/Eliza Date: 27 Oct 16 - 06:49 AM Sorry, but there's nothing about cod in the song. It's about a fisherman, but just tells of the death of his fisherman father during a storm, and the stars which guide all sailors. Also, the poverty of his mother, as he's her only support. Very sweet little song, and rather sad. If you type in ' Lyrics 'Partons, le mer est belle' on Google, you can see all the verses and chorus in French there. |

Subject: RE: can you i.d. this french song From: Jack Campin Date: 27 Oct 16 - 07:37 AM And if you type "chanson de morue" into Google you get a whole dripping crateful of songs. |
Subject: RE: can you i.d. this french song From: GUEST,Senoufou Date: 27 Oct 16 - 07:58 AM In spite of having studied French at Uni, I didn't even get the gender of 'mer' right! It's 'la mer' of course!! |
Subject: RE: can you i.d. this french song From: Mrrzy Date: 27 Oct 16 - 10:44 AM Fun fact - mar (sea) is masculine in Spanish, unless you're a sailor, when it becomes feminine. |
Subject: RE: can you i.d. this french song From: GUEST,Ebor Fiddler Date: 27 Oct 16 - 11:51 AM In Latin, of course, all sailors are feminine, as are farmers (Ave Nauta!) |
