My mom is 94 and used to sing in the Univ of Wash Glee Club in the 1920s. She's trying to find lyrics for songs whose titles she's lost. I know some words such as: "Here is the red of the rose you brought to me that night you stole into my hidden bower; Here is a verse of the song you taught to me and here's the gray of the dawn, our parting hour."(acapella harmony) Supposed to be symbolic of the colors in a Persian rug. Any suggestions ?: ? ? ? Not really folk, more camp or parlor songs.

Thanks! tlowry@jps.net

Well, I can't help with the specific song, but here are some resources you might want to check for...

Early 1900's Popular Songs (1913-1919) Recordings

University of Indiana's Popular Music
mentioned this book

The Complete Encyclopedia of Popular Music and Jazz l900-1950

LookSmart's 1920's Music

I tried the Levy Sheet Music Collection at John Hopkins University, sorry can't do a clikety blue thing, and Sheet Music at Duke University, but no luck. However if you know the first line in the song it might work better. Good Luck.

You all are great! I've bookmarked 'em, too. What a fine resource the Mudcat remains, despite those who complain about all the BS threads.

Sandy
