I'm sure that's not it, Joe. I don't recall the song being religious, and the melody was dreamy.

The melody you have linked is for "Wie Schoen Leuchtet," a Lutheran hymn which hit the charts in the 1600's and was arranged later by J. S. Bach, probably more than once. It is more commonly known as "How Brightly Beams the Morning Star."

Those are nice words for it. Thanks.

Hi, Leeneia - Silver Burdett published the New Music Horizons series. As you can see in our Silver Burdett School Songbook Index, there are lots of songs with Morning Star and Evening Star in the title. Can you remember a snippet of the lyrics?

-Joe-

O MORNING STAR
Words by Nancy Byrd Turner (Paraphrased from the German)
Music by Johann Sebastian Bach

O Morning Star, thou Love of God,
Thy beauty brightens all our road,
It shines on hill and hollow;
The world was dark in other days,
But now O Morning Star, thy rays
Are clear for us to follow.
Holy! Holy! Night has ended, fair and splendid
Light is showing, We are safe in all our going

O Star, above an humble town
Across the world they light came down
Long years ago, and purely
That light shines upon our way,
It guides our trusting feet today
And still will lead us surely.
Holy! Holy! Star of morning, sky adorning
Failing never, Love of God, to lead us ever.

P. 48, Music in our Country, fifth-grade volume of the Silver Burdett Music For Living Series (1956)
Also on P. 84, Silver Burdett New Music Horizons Book 4 (1945)
If this is the one, I can send you a scan of the piano accompaniment. Here's the melody:

Anybody recognize the melody? The only Bach "Morgenstern" song I could find is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz9_25PyJ_w.

Subject: Tune Req: Evening, Mrnng star - new music horizons

When I was in the fourth or fifth grade, we sang a beautiful song about the Morning Star or maybe Evening Star from a collection called New Music Horizons.

I know people have collections of these songbooks. Would somebody look for such a song and post it somehow? Or you could scan the page and send me a PM. Then I'll post the MIDI.

I want to play it again and see if it was just as beautiful as I remember.

Thanks
