I wonder if I could use the collective wisdom of this esteemed website to find out more about the LP "Streets of Brummagem" It was recorded in 1971 and seems to have been the brainchild of the wonderful Roy Palmer r.i.p.

Can anyone tell me more about the record and the motivation. It is not even clear who the actual singers are since there are lots of children's names but I can't tell who the main male singer is (possibly one Martyn Briggs?) As mentioned above there is a very competent adult male singer who seems to lead many of the songs and I was wondering if it was Roy Palmer himself?

Any help in solving this puzzle greatly appreciated.

The Catalogue number of this particular LP is CH (for Charles Horrell) 102 and I believe he produced CH 101 at around the same time (1970) which was another LP by Shenley Court and called "Birmingham Lads".

Roy Palmer did sing, usually to illustrate his books at folk festivals like the long gone Putley FF, it might have been him. He even sponsored me for access to the Bodleian Library so I could do research on a collected song. As it happened I failed on that specific quest and a couple of years later he came across a reference to a snippet of a "folk processed" bit of the song. Old England She Needs Soldiers
He even included one of my songs in a talk about shanties. To lift the talk (it is a parody). Knittershanty

He was a teacher and headmaster in Birmingham but retired early to concentrate on his books. And a thoroughly nice guy.
