There might be some other forums to try too. Or Facebook?
You could try asking on
https://thesession.org/discussions ?
They'll have more fiddler's there.

? Or make and post/dropbox a YouTube type clip of it(/ask someone how to make a YouTube clip of it).

Maybe an email to the production/casting company?

Still hoping to find out who the fiddler is, and the tune.

Barry

I've got a copy of the DVD but I've never watched it and I just found it won't play on my Mac.

Maybe Mike Leigh was keeping it real by hiring a fiddler under the table and keeping their identity anonymous so the social wouldn't find out? How many itinerant fiddlers in Turner's time would have declared their income or even their existence to the taxman?

The screenplay is no help either (p.27) but a fun read.

As far as I can see IMDB doesn't credit anyone for the fiddle playing:

Mr Turner Cast

They do credit a few of non-speaking boat passengers. It would seem the fiddle player doesn't merit a mention even though many of the "staffage" do!

Hi Barry,

A great film!

No idea what the tune is (or the identity of the fiddler/actor playing the tune) but I think the boat trip is to Margate where he lived for a chunk of his later life.

I'm sure someone on here will know if a genuine folk fiddler got the gig.

A link to the clip might help?

Regards
Harry

I've just watched the Mike Leigh film, a biopic of JMW Turner, starring Timothy Spall.

About 40mins in, he takes a boat to Scarborough (?) and there's a fiddler playing onboard.

Does anyone know who the fiddler is and the tune he'playing?

Cheers
Barry
