Subject: RE: traditional tune used for Molly or Morri From: GUEST Date: 21 Feb 17 - 03:59 AM Hi there I am indeed looking for a specific Molly/Morris tune from Essex and hopefully a traditional one not one that has been recently written. Is "Epping Forest" such a tune? I know I should be scouring the EFDSS database but I thought it would be nice to see if anyone who was from the area knew. I'm not terribly good with the database anyway and all the tunes collections are not listed by region I don't think. Its for a recording project. Me and my singing partner are singing an old Essex song called tarry trousers and want to add on a jaunty Essex tune at the end. |
Subject: RE: traditional tune used for Molly or Morri From: GUEST Date: 21 Feb 17 - 04:08 AM Just had a listen to Epping Forest. What a great tune and Playford to boot. Thanks very much Jack for the suggestion. It could work but any other suggestions keep em coming. |
Subject: RE: traditional tune used for Molly or Morri From: GUEST,Peter Date: 21 Feb 17 - 04:48 AM It isn't clear from your original post. Are you looking for traditional local tunes that would make good morris / molly tunes or are you looking for ones that were used for molly? While it is known that molly took place in parishes close to the Cambridge border but I am not aware of any tunes being collected. There are a few tunes from various dancing masters with local names such as Epping Forest or Romford Assembley but not necessarily with any real local connection. The, now disbanded, dance side Seven Straw Braid did research a number of these. |
