Subject: RE: 101 SocialJusticeWarrior songs-suggestions? From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Feb 17 - 01:00 PM Hi, Jen - Lately I've been singing Anne Feeney's The Rich Man's House. I love the song. There are lots of Anne Feeney songs that might appeal to you. Not to toot my own horn too loudly, but we put lots of Social Justice Warrior songs in the Rise Again Songbook (click). Many are in the "Struggle" chapter, but we have them peppered throughout the book. The link will lead you to YouTube videos for most of the songs in the book. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: 101 SocialJusticeWarrior songs-suggestions? From: GUEST Date: 24 Feb 17 - 01:40 PM I've got Rise Up Singing and am getting a lot from it - mostly the Women, Work and Struggle chapters. Would like to get hold of volume 2! Planning to use a lot of Woody Guthrie and Judy Small songs, but would like older/traditional stuff too. |

Subject: RE: 101 SocialJusticeWarrior songs-suggestions? From: GUEST,The Troubles Date: 26 Feb 17 - 02:36 PM The song "No Chains" was written by my band, The Troubles, for Marian Price, when she was an Irish Republican political prisoner in Northern Ireland, and the other, "Bring Him Home", was written for Michael Campbell, another Irish Republican political prisoner, when he was being held in Lithuania. Both of them were freed through the efforts of activists from Ireland, the US, and around the world. We do a lot of social injustice stuff - our own and the traditionals - in regard to our Irish causes as well as pro-Union related to our coal region and Molly Maguire music. https://www.reverbnation.com/thetroubles55/song/17724418-no-chains https://www.reverbnation.com/thetroubles55/song/16477609-bring-him-home My alter ego hippie band, Chasing Rabbits, is fledgling so we haven't got any studio recordings of our originals yet, but here's a video of "Stand Up for Standing Rock", our newest cause. https://www.facebook.com/CHASINGRABBITS1969/videos/829046963926194/ Gotta help out where you can.
