I booked him several times at various clubs i was involved with,he was a great entertainer, and good banjo player and guitarist. my reaction on reading the news was, oh god.

Oh no, not another :-( We had Derek at Swinton a couple of times. My favourite tale of his was his Granddaughter winning the school prize for the most unusual pet - a tin of sardines.

He will be missed by many. Condolences to those who knew and loved him best.

We used to book him at the BBC Folk Club in the 1960s - very talented, always popular. A good man gone. RIP.
