From: Joe Offer

I AM A WOMAN...ON PLANET EARTH
(Ruth Pelham)

I am a woman, here on planet earth.
I have the breath of life in me,
A gift given at birth.

CHORUS:
No one, nobody,
no powers that be,
Can ever, ever, ever take
This (gift) away from me.

I am a woman here on planet earth.
I have a song to sing in me,
A song sung birth to birth.
CHORUS:
No one.. my self away from me.

I am a woman here on planet earth.
Flesh, blood and bone am I
Before and after birth.
CHORUS:
No one..my self away from me.

I am a woman here on planet earth.
I have the will to live in me,
I learned that at my birth.
CHORUS:
No one..my will away from me.

Repeat first verse
Tag: my life away from me.

yes i have looked at that site....she has a vehicle with music speakers that she drives where kids can hear it!! Great, enthusiastic musician, and charismatic like Faith Petric!! I have found several of her songs in Rise Up Singing, and particularly like Turning of the World which has been mentioned in another thread here. I see some of her songs are in the Unitarian song book. I heard the "new" lyrics to the America song on you tube, and now cannot re-find them!

Hi, Laurel -

The Rise Up Singing and Rise Again songbooks have used a number of Ruth Pelham songs, but I don't think we used that one. I think I've heard it once or twice, but of course now I can't find it.

Her Website is http://www.musicmobile.org

Subject: Lyr Req: America Alternative lyrics by Ruth Pelham
From: open mike

I am participating in a women's history month performance and the song America was suggested....I remember hearing some alternate lyrics sunc by Ruth Pelham would anyone have these lyrics or know of a source for them?

Also does anyone have any suggestions for a song that might be good for a group such as a women's chorus to sing as an anthem for a women's concert/event? I am thinking of Singing for our Lives by Holly Near or Turning of the World by Ruth Pelham.....others/??

The song i heard a parody of was America the Beautiful the one that goes:
    O beautiful for spacious skies
    For amber waves of grain
    For purple mountain majesties
    Above the fruited plain
