Subject: Country Style ... From: GUEST,CJB Date: 07 Mar 17 - 12:27 PM From Americana to rockability, from bluegrass to the pop crossover of Taylor Swift, country music has never been more popular. This week BBC Radio 2, together with Chris Country, visits the C2C: Country to Country festival at the O2 and the digital pop-up station Radio 2 Country can be heard from the 9th to 12th. US radio is flooded with country music stations - about 2,000 in all - that can trace their genesis back to station WSM's Barn Dance in October 1925, almost immediately renamed the Grand Ole Opry. WSM still broadcasts the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights. http://andywalmsley.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/its-country-style.html Clips can be downloaded using right mouse click / Save As ... |

Subject: RE: Country Style ... From: Bonzo3legs Date: 08 Mar 17 - 02:44 AM I remember driving along Interstate 17 between Scotsdale and Flagstaff listening to the most wonderful country music in 1998, with crying pedal steel!!! |
Subject: RE: Country Style ... From: Dave Hanson Date: 08 Mar 17 - 02:45 AM If it's the BBC it will probably be country and western which is really just someone singing pop music with a cowboy hat on, feckin awful. Dave H |
Subject: RE: Country Style ... From: GUEST Date: 08 Mar 17 - 07:46 AM Nice to see that irrational stereotyping is alive and well on Mudcat. Let's all stick our collective finger in our ear and, over a few pints of real ale, mumble through our beards about no other genre having merit. Irrational stereotyping? Moi? Never! |

Subject: RE: Country Style ... From: punkfolkrocker Date: 08 Mar 17 - 10:30 AM As an electric 'folkie' guitarist brought up on 1970s classic rock, I look towards USA country for inspiration... If I was an acoustic guitarist, in all probability I'd do the same.. The best modern country / americana players encompass traditional twang, vintage rock, and swampy blues dirt & grit..... 😎 |
Subject: RE: Country Style ... From: Bonzo3legs Date: 08 Mar 17 - 01:34 PM I think there will be plenty of inspiration from Brad Paisley on Thursday, few guitar players can match his masterly playing. Then on Saturday we have the amazing black country singer - Darious Rucker. |
Subject: RE: Country Style ... From: GUEST,GUEST Date: 08 Mar 17 - 04:42 PM Strange how many English folkies sneer at Country music - then pick up a guitar to accompany a 'traditional English folk song.' |
Subject: RE: Country Style ... From: Bonzo3legs Date: 09 Mar 17 - 02:46 AM I was wrong, Brad Paisley tops the bill on Friday, and Darius Rucker is on Saturday! |
