Last week saw ex-chancellor and MP for Tatton get the job as editor of the Evening Standard, the London paper he applied to for the job and owned by a Russian oligarch. This job is going to take him away from his constituency and will be very demanding, and the consensus his that he's either 1) underestimated what a newspaper editor actually does, or b) Doesn't give a tinker's cuss about his constituents (Tatton is 200 miles and a world away from London, although it has some posh towns and villages).

Other tory MPs are annoyed because Osbourne has drawn attention to this subject, as they attempt to make a few bob on the side to the detriment of their constituents. Isn't about time our MPs were just MP's and not moonlighting when they should be working for us, which is what we pay them for?

I was amazed when Ex labour Minister Jack Straw was forced to admit that he asked £1500 for a one hour after Dinner speech.

I'm sure he would have paid the tax on these "little earners"

Top earner in the world is Donald Trump at $25000 per speech and is reckoned to have eared $1.5 million for "a number of speeches" prior to his being elected.

Of course, it is proposed that his constituency will disappear shortly: Here so he may be getting in early to have a job for when his current one is abolished. If The Evening Standard job is considered 'full time' I would hope that he will stand down from his position as an MP (some hope).

But who's going to want to stand for election to a constituency that's disappearing in a couple of years? I reckon he's gambling on "oh, we might as well leave him there, considering." I think he's underestimated the furore he's set off! Arrogant Tory waste o' space.

Ever heard the old adage "Laws are made by lawyers" ?

In the past, a lot of MPs were barristers (QCs & Silks even), because they could schedule their legal work in the Inns, even High Court appearances, in the morning and turn up in the House pm. Or trade their votes one for one with another party and continue being a shark.

But it has to be said (by newspaper editors past & present) that being an editor is a full time job. Even ignoring the number of hours needed, the "times" when the hours are needed is 24/7. Therefore one might say (putting my coat on, rushing to the exit, before the groans):

There's Osborne every minute!

There are lots of them at it. Perhaps we need a more user friendly de-selection procedure.Perhaps MP's should be made to clock in and out so we can judge if they provide value for money. We could also publicly display all votes by MP's online.

This is utterly disastrous for those of us that live in the neighbouring seat of Macclesfield, as the town is set amidst a sea of wealthy villages and towns that would vote tory for a turd with a blue rosette on. We'll be saddled with the MP we have now, who is on the career ladder and represents Westminster in Macclesfield, rather than Macclesfield in Westminster. Total waste of time voting even.
