I was called the squeak for the very simple reason, I do.

Listen if you can to a Les Barker CD, called 'A Cardi and Bloke', the noise like a demented bat that stops the show frequently is me. I giggle. I giggle dreadfully.....

That is all you need to know, so there is no need for TerriM, Spawn of TerriM or Micca to elucidate is there.....

Liz the Squeak, I hope you get better soon. Maybe you should mosey over to the tavern and have LonesomeEJ fix you up a phlegm-cutting drink of some sort.

Why do you call yourself "the Squeak" ?

If your out with the Druids, watch those potions the brew, and lag the old wedding tackle or you may add a new dimension the "Snap on Tools"* concept as LtS once said "I didn't know you could snap them off"

* its some kind of a maintenance company country-wide here inthe UK, its logo on its vans says Snap-on Tools.

Sorry, Lizzie. It was me!

It wasn't deliberate, but does bring to mind New Year '84, when I was sludge-gulped at midnight by the village femme fatale, and I contracted a rampant dose of glandular fever, which I have never fully recovered from.

Dangerous thing, snogging, even if it is virtual, it seems! Sorry you had such a crap time of it, and hope yer back on yer pins for New Years Eve.

I'm playing an all night session down on Mendip, and will probably end up getting me kit off with the druids, downwind of the beacon on Maesbury Hill. Can't wait!!!!

Well I hope everyone here gets the 'flu!!!'

I've just spent a miserable Boxing Day and two bank holidays in bed with 'flu' (not good for us asthmatics), I now have a throat like I've gargled with razor blades and no voice at all... Who was it gave me that long frenchie with the aftertaste of taramasalata???? Come on, I know it was one of you gave me this 'flu'......

Bonnie, sorry my dear, not ticklish. Its the beard or nothing.

Liz, I have First Alerts all over the house. Lived through a fire once so I know the need for a good alarm. As far as your cat making an ash of his(her)self. What do you expect dear, its just a cat.

Besides, The Muse is the only one close enough to actually have a chance at my beard. I'd better be more careful what I say on the forum. :-)))

they eat the tinsel and the mistletoe
the chew the Christmas lamps until thy blow
then they swallow one and watch the glow
as it travels through their stomach and intestines

a cat with food you can not trust
it never knows whether to sh*t or burst
And I'm never sure which outcome is the worst
As they revel in the joys of overeating

A Mogs your friend except at christmas time
When it suddenly gets this urge to climb
And sticks up 2 fingers to "old lang syne"
As it revels in an orgy of destruction

to return to the tree climbing cats please feel free to add to this
Chorus
Cats on christmas trees
Cats on tiles
Cats with fur balls that go on for miles
Cats with there faces wreathed in smiles
As they decimate the Christmas decorations

The moggy is a lonely bloke
Rarely gets a Rum and coke
But when he does he goes for broke
As he vomits up the lot on the hearthrug
chorus
At christmas time the cats go mad
They rip the sweater that was meant for Dad
The eat the food before its had
as they revel in the joys of dissapation

I haven't seen your CV yet, Liz. The position of foredeck hand on the good ship Skipjack remains vacant.

One of the few fringe benefits is the bottle of Woods 100 lashed to the mast.

We set sail for the azur waters of the North Sea in January, now the nights are drawing out nicely.

Stroh is for external application only, didn't you know that?

Mind you, I once made chocolate mousse, with three layers. Top layer was white chocolate with Bacardi rum, second was milk chocolate with stroh and the bottom was dark chocolate with Woods 100proof......

Leave the celery, just varnish it. Emily, don't listen to Micca, he's a fearful wine snob! (oh, yes you are!)We use whatever is cheap and just add more sugar if it's a little tannic. And he probably did mean a tot per serving, he usually does. I've been stood hopefully under this misletoe for days now, not that I'm hinting or anything you understand... it's just that some people get kisses and some people don't, if you see what I mean and ...., well, there's always next year, I suppose.

Banjo Bonnie - DON'T WASH THE BED!!!!!

Someone in the UK has just won a stupid amount of cash for exhibiting hers in the Tate Gallery, as an exhibit in the Turner Prize competition!

You could display it as an original, or frame it, just think how lovely those grapes will look squished against the glass in the frame. And the rubber chicken will add that hint of mystery. I'd take the celery out though, it will only go rotten and smell.....

Emily Rain, one of the problems with mulling wine is that the heating of the red wine accentuates the tannin in the wine, (thats the stuff that makes your teeth feel furry), the way to offset this is to add sugar(or the sweetner of your choice) and spices and use a microwave to warm as mentioned, this reduces the "cooking time". If you are in the UK a reasonable Bulgarian Cabernet Sauvignon would do and about 2 ounces of spirit of choice, zest of orange or lemon and, cinnamon and ground cloves and spices of choice, go easy on the nutmeg as too much is hallucinogenic and Myristica poisoning is distinctly unpleasant, being drunk or worse, hung over with Hallucinations, no thanks. Ideally your local Health food shop will do sort of mulling "Bouquet Garni" and dark beer and cider can mull really well, too. Go for the sweeter end of the range tho' Guiness mulled is HORRIBLE.

And to simmer the wine use (with care) a microwave oven, it heats without alcohol loss due to boiling. It is the 4th reason for having a microwave , for things that are difficult or impossible to do otherwise.

You can get little mulled wine sachets that do all the hard work for you but, if you can't find them we just simmer wine ( not boil) with a cinnamon stick, some fresh grated nutmeg, a few cloves, orange and lemon peel and 2 tablespoons of demerara sugar( or to taste).

If you are feeling really adventurous, you could add a tot of rum or brandy as well. I would advise wrapping presents before, not during :)!

Lots to catch up on from the last few days!

I like the idea of the picket fence even without a cat! One of my favourite tree decorating items was the year my Dad made a small ladder and propped it against the (artificial) tree attaching it to the "trunk" with a support wire and place one of my old dolls (a 3 ft "walking" doll) on the ladder in a pretty dress as if she were decorating the tree...

I can't even find any artificial mistletoe where I live! But I have holly and ivy...

I need to say this, Charles (seed), that I must keep mum 'bout the one I love, though my heart wants to cry it out. It's fun to raise eyebrows and make people wonder just which fellow has won my heart. But for now it's a secret and should the time come, it will be announced with a cheer and a shout...

UGH! and to think I have a BA in English Lit!

I'm off to frost more cookies...and start wrapping gifts.

Heh, let's have a "wrapping party"! Anyone have a good mulled wine recipe?? (Always wanted to try that.)

Mary

We just let our little cat climb and then fall out of the tree. Once he'd landed on his head a few times, even HE got the idea and he is even thicker than Terri's two; whom I've met and they are everything she says, and more.....

Mick, where is Hinkley? If it is further north than Islington, I ain't gonna be there, I dunno, three flakes of watery snow and the country grinds to a halt. Bet it's all gone by Christmas Eve!

Here it is, three days before Christmas and there isn't a stick of holly to be found. The only tree in my garden with berry (singular)is also in flower, at a time when there are no others flowering to pollinate it, and the other two hollies have decided to hibernate. Managed to get one small twig with a berry on it, smooth leaves, so I rule the house again..... (old tradition, if the first holly in the house has smooth leaves, (no prickles) the woman rules. If it has sharp leave, i.e., prickles, the man rules. He hasn't managed to so far in 9 years together......)

Good job I found some mistletoe then, isn't it.

Happy Solstice to you all, keep well, and don't worry, after tonight, the evenings start to get lighter and Spring is on its way!!!

I attempted to use classical conditioning to prevent my cat from climbing the Christmas tree for my psychology project. I was attempting the water spraying method. Unfortunately, the cat was a little too specific in his conditioning. It doesn't keep him from climbing the tree, he just doesn't climb it when I'm in the room.

So much catching up to do..and I've only been away a couple of days..
First then.. Liz.. what on earth are you doing standing under the clock at Waterloo?.. you want to be freezing the whatsits off at Hinckley.. then I can get you warmed up in the Queen's Head, providing you give us the odd song/tune or two.
As for all you cat owners.. I think you need to make a choice.. tree or cat.. cat or tree.. if you really think you need both then you could try one of the following..

Lead booties for the feline (stops them climbing)
A rolled up newspaper with which to beat the said feline into submission any time it attempts to "mount" the tree
Perhaps the easiest option.. settle for a smaller tree mounted on a table etc so said thicko pussy doesn't realise it's there
If however you've got a really inquistive breed of fur ball you could always visit for a frontal labotemy (apologies re spelling) for your favourite cat
Personally I would use the sack and the nearest canal/river.. but eh.. I don't profess to be a cat lover, even at this time of year.. now I suspect that has wound up many springs.. so I'll sit back and see what happens

Charles.. what can I say?

In such matters of the heart
What true gentleman would impart
Such details of his heart's desire
That when such facts would then transpire
To announce his love to all the world
And expose their secret to all unfurled
Whilst disrecretion should be the trade to woo
And leave you all just wondering who

Peace to you all
Mick
