Subject: RE: Fairport at 50 From: Dave Hanson Date: 30 Mar 17 - 02:44 PM David Attenborough played Ian Cambell singing a very fine version of ' The Shoals of Herring ' and twice said it was Ewan MacColl, he also said they blew the programme budget bringing some Scottish singers to London to sing ' working songs ' when he really meant ' waulking songs ' But you can't knock his enthusiasm, he seemed to like folk music very much. The band formed in 1967 and emerged to be one of the most important group in the English folk rock movement. Their seminal album Liege & Leif was voted the 'Most Influential Folk Album Of All Time' in the 2006 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. The band in their current format are Simon Nicol (guitar, lead vocals), Dave Pegg (bass guitar, mandolin), Ric Sanders (fiddle), Chris Leslie (fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki, lead vocals) and Gerry Conway (drums).
