http://folking.com  is running The 2017 Folking Awards

The nominations, in eight categories, come from our ever-expanding team of writers and were wrangled into shape with sweat, tears and not a little blood by the Folkmeister and the Editor.

There are five nominees in each category, all of whom have been featured in the pages of folking.com in 2016.

As with the format last year, all are winners in our eyes. However, its not just down to what we think, so again, there will be a public vote to decide the overall winner of each category.

I meant to put "    " round
"The nominations, ...    ... of each category."

I don't have any views, at the moment.

Yet more awards,
" Awards are meaningless to me, and I have nothing but disdain for anyone who actively campaigns to get one."Bill Murray
"award shows mainly publicise the people giving the awards"...Alan Alda

Can I nominate Dick Miles? He's tirelessly worked the folk circuit for years and is a true original. He may not be young, or pretty, but that shouldn't stop his inclusion.

Sorry Mr Schweik that this isn't your scene, I see such awards as a chance to congratulate those who don't make it onto the BBC Folk Music programme or Cambridge Folk Fright Fest.

I think in certain circumstances a small competition, say within a festival, is a good way of encouraging some performers to raise their game a little.
It shouldn't need any fancy gong presentations but a bit of recognition for the winner and maybe a spot of cash can't do much harm.

always 'imho'

Quote by Harry Cox when asked how he felt about being awarded the Gold Badge of the English Folk Dance and Song Society.

"Very nice - but a 5 bob (25p) a week pension would have been handier"
