Subject: Songs for 'Hootenanny' set ????

I'm putting together a "Hootenanny" set to be sung in senior centers here in the USA/CT.   I need song suggestions from the early 60s, when crossover "folk songs" were true mainstream "hits". Nothing obscure. I'm hoping to get people in their 70s and 80s to sing along ... etc. Any ideas, Mudcatters?

where have all the flowers gone
this land is your land
yellow bird
jamaica farewell
on top of old smokey
down in the valley

Look up Kingston Trio and see what you recognize.

I just had an idea. Go to YouTube, search for "Hootenanny TV show". Lots of promising material there.

My wife and I perform for seniors. We do the aforementioned Jamaica Farewell and This Land is Your Land. Surprisingly, a lot of seniors know Country Roads. We always get requests for Side By Side and My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean. This Little Light of Mine gets a lot of people singing along.

Thank you so much for all of these ideas!   (Very interesting history of the "hootenanny" term!
At this point, I think it would be best to keep to the early 60s songs that would show up on the classic "hootenanny" folk songs from that era.
Keep 'em coming, fellow folkies!

It's a little more recent (1983), but Guy Clark's "Homegrown Tomatoes" is a real crowd pleaser. So are cowboy songs, and maybe a sea chantey or two.
