Thanks, Felipa, that's great. I've now been able to find a video of the song from the BBC Alba programme Alleluia on their web site. I sent them a request to ask if there was a complete translation anywhere but unfortunately they didn't respond.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I think we need to ask a Mudcat Elf to correct the spelling of the title on the discussion heading

Gaelic spellings for the surname Morrison, feminine form are Nic Ille Mhoire and Mhoireasdan

two recordings available on Bliadhna nan Orán (the year of song), sung by Calum Màrtainn and by Iseabail Anna Mhàrtainn

First line means "this love is so strong that even death can not defeat it"
"Is gràdh e nach tòimhsear" = it's an immeasurable love or maybe "It's a love which can't be understood, a mysterious love", "tha e thar gach uil' eòlas gu lèir" beyond all knowledge/ken

"Tha an saoghal 's an Sàtan" - the world is in Satan's hands
but "Cha bhi cuimhn' air an truaighean 's na buairidhean a bh' aca san àm,
Nuair gheibh iad thar Iòrdain 's a gheibh iad a' ghlòir tha an taobh thall."They will forget the sorrows and cares they had at that time; when they pass over Jordan, they will receive glory over on that side

http://www.bbc.co.uk/alba/oran/orain/gradh_dhe/

Tha an gràdh seo cho làidir, bàs chan fhaigh làmh air no buaidh.
Na tuiltean cha bhàth e, oir 's cuan e, tha lànachd bith-bhuan.
'S an dream a gheibh pàirt dheth, cha bhi iad dheth sàsaicht' nan cuairt.
'S ann a' tòiseachadh tha e nuair ruigeas iad Pàrras le buaidh.

Tha an gràdh seo cho dìomhair 's nach gabh e le briathran a luaidh.
Oir bha e aig Dia mun robh talamh no grian ann, no cuan.
Oir dheònaich an Trianaid gun tigeadh Mac sìorraidh a-nuas.
A phàigheadh na fiachan 's a ghabhadh air ìomhaigh a shluaigh.

Is gràdh e nach tòimhsear, tha e thar gach uil' eòlas gu lèir.
Rinneadh iomradh le Pòl air, le Peadar, 's le Eòin mar an ceudn'.
Fhuair mnathan còir air, chuir Muire e gu sònraicht' an cèill.
'S e thug Rut is Naomi a-mach à tìr Mhòab le chèil'.

Tha 'n eaglais 'san fhàsach ri gearain gach là air a truaigh',
'S i beò air a' mhàna ga thional gach tràth thig e nuas.
'S ged tha truaillidheachd nàdair, peacadh is bàs rithe fuaight',
Tha thu 'g ràdh, "Tha i àillidh", 's tu 'g amharc oirr' an àilleachd an uain.

Tha an saoghal 's an Sàtan, an tòir oirre a-ghnàth anns a' ghleann
Ach bheir iadsan buaidh air chionn 's gun do bhuadhaich an ceann.
Cha bhi cuimhn' air an truaighean 's na buairidhean a bh' aca san àm,
Nuair gheibh iad thar Iòrdain 's a gheibh iad a' ghlòir tha an taobh thall.

I'm looking for the lyrics of this song and was also wondering if there was an English translation. All I know about the songwriter is that she was born in Scalpay, Harris in 1884. Thanks.
