In Nic Jones' first (I think?) album which contains songs such as the Duke of Marlborough, and William and Nancy's Parting, is the album all in Standard Tuning or are there some open tuning songs in there?

I know he used an open C tuning on some songs. Kind of like DADGAD but a full step lower.

All the Nic Jones tracks I have heard sound to me to have been recorded using un- conventional tunings

According to Mike Raven's 'English Folk Guitar' book, 'William and Nancy's Parting' is in DGDGAD, and 'Dance to your Daddy' is in DADGAD. Why not ask Nic himself through his website for more details? I'm sure he'd be happy to oblige.

Ballads and Songs was his first solo album, 'Duke of Marlborough' was on that one (standard tuning, according to Mike Raven's book) and 'Annan Water'(DGDGBD), 'Sir Patrick Spens' (DADEAE), 'Don't You Be Foolish, Pray' (standard tuning).

Interesting,

The way I've been playing William and Nancy's parting is in standard and seems to sound almost exactly like it, but that is interesting. Duke of Marlborough as well I can make out in Standard.

Can I just ask why he used so many different tunings? Seems labourious to switch between guitars or tune between songs. Was it really necessary for each song to have a different tuning?
