Sad news - he had the most amazing life, and a bottle of his 'Brother Bru Bru's Hot African Sauce' has been a fixture in my kitchen cupboard for years now.

RIP - far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow......

Met him backstage at an Odetta concert in NYC 50 years ago. Really nice guy. Amazing how he could play like he did with so many fingers missing from his right hand.

This is a gentleman called Peter Seeger, and here is another gentleman called Bruce Langhorn (applause). Forget about it, forget about it - wait till they DO somethin' before ye clap!

-From the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem's impromptu concert

I found this via a couple of Turkish posters on Facebook. Mr Tambourine Man's original tambourine, which is nothing like I would have imagined:

picture on Facebook

It's a variant of the Turkish/Kurdish/Iranian "daf" or "def". Langhorne's has little bells inside the rim; it's more common to have a few rows of metal rings inside linked like chain mail which rattle against the head. As he says in the quote, it makes a range of sounds comparable to a complete drumkit:

The tambourine that I used was really cool, because it had a bass tone, and it had an edge tone, and it had jingle tones. So it could pretty much do what a drum set with a bass drum and a snare drum and a hi-hat would do. Because it would keep all of those, it would have something to say in all of those registers. So I think that Dick was interested in working with me on that, because it was a unique sound, and it complimented the unique sound of his dulcimer.

I can't locate the same image elsewhere but there must be a non-FB source for it.
