I can't find any mention on Mudcat of Pat Shaw's centenary. Born 24/12/17
Musician, tune collector, singer, best remembered for the dances he wrote, some simple, some fiendish but all very logical and symmetric.
I think the hippopotamus song mentioned in this thread was written by him

I have his birthday marked in the Glos Folk Diary and play 'Margaret's Waltz' almost every time we go out!

The camping and caravan folk section had a session for his dances at the Easter meet.
Peter - Margaret's waltz is a gem- do you use any other of his tunes?

I knew Pat well. A larger-than-life character, his sudden death came as a shock to us all. Although best-known for his dance music, I remember him for the songs that he also collected and for the wonderful Christmas events that he organised at C# House. He was quite a cook and gourmet and an invite to a meal at his home in Hampstead was definately an event not to be missed. Also, I remember the surprise at seeing Pat walking down Haverstock Hill during a scene in the film "The Collector". I later asked him about it and he said that he had been out shopping when the film-director spotted him and asked him if he would mind going back up the hill and then start walking down the hill again when the camera started rolling. Not exactly the starring role, but I, for one, won't forget his part!

There are several versions of Margaret's Waltz to enjoy on Youtube. Thanks for mentioning it, Flora.
