Hi, RunrigFan - can you give us at least a partial transcription? It gives us more to go on. I found a 45cat (click) listing for the record (1978), but no source for a recording I could hear and transcribe.
Thanks.

is this Rolling Home to Caledonia or another song?
(I think the one I mentioned can be rolling home to a number of different places!)

As the sun goes down
I remember the sunset long ago
On the isle of birth
Caledonia, I return to you

Recorded on Audacity. Microphone. Won't be good as from a studio(ignore the background noise)

That gives us a great start, RunrigFan. Not tonight, though. I'm off to bed - gotta teach a class in the morning.

OK, here's what I hear so far. Can anyone add to this? I need lots of help on the second verse.
-Joe-

As the sun goes down on this island o'er the sea,
I remember a sunset long ago;
On the isle of my birth, far, far away
Caledonia, I'm thinking of you.

CHORUS
Caledonia, Caledonia,
Home to me you are and always will be
Caledonia, Caledonia,
My thoughts will return to you.

In my mind I have seen [the croppies by the shore]
And the .... I love
....
Caledonia ....

As the end of my years so swiftly draws near,
And I go to be with the ones I love
How it saddens my heart when I toast alone
Caledonia, to you I'm coming home

Second verse as best I could

"In my mind I have seen the cottage by the shore
And the folk so dearly I love
To a glen........this little girl
Caledonia's always in my thoughts"

The third line is really hard to make out though. I think it starts with "To a glen" and might finish with "this little girl" but not sure about the end and just can't make out the words in between.

Pretty sure the other three lines are correct.

Third line so hard to make out but it might be "To a glen and forgive this little girl"

And Joe basically has the last verse though I am sure it is "As the end of the year" rather than "As the end of my years"

So someone feeling homesick/lovesick as the festive period grows near rather than because they are old!!

As the sun goes down on this island o'er the sea,
I remember a sunset long ago;
On the isle of my birth, far, far away
Caledonia, I'm thinking of you.

CHORUS
Caledonia, Caledonia,
Home to you, and always will be

My thoughts oh will return to you.

Verse 2

In my mind I have seen the cottage by the shore
And the folk so dearly I love
To a glen and the hills, of this little girl
Caledonia's always in my thoughts

CHORUS

Caledonia, Caledonia,
Home to you, and always will be
Caledonia, Caledonia,
My thoughts oh will return to you.

Verse 3

As the end of the years go swiftly draws near,
And I go to be with the ones I love
How it saddens my heart when I toast alone
Caledonia, to you I'm coming home

CHORUS

Caledonia, Caledonia,
Home to you, and always will be
Caledonia, Caledonia,
My thoughts oh will return to you.

CHORUS

Caledonia, Caledonia,
Home to you, and always will be
Caledonia, Caledonia,
My thoughts oh will return to you.
