Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dreaming Of Home From: GUEST,Rossey Date: 10 Aug 19 - 02:58 PM David Silver who died in 2006, was a journalist, lyricist, record producer, label owner, publisher and musician. He wrote the most famous 'Dark Island' lyric in 1963, "Away to the west... when I'm back once more upon the Dark Island". Ian Gourlay was also a well known Scottish songsmith. If people on Mudcat Cafe are going to circulate lyrics, they should attach the author's name with the lyric, as you are using a copyright work. It is courtesy and good practice to give due credit along with the words. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dreaming of Home From: GUEST Date: 24 Oct 24 - 11:50 PM 1. Far from the highlands And the westerly islands, By many a strange land Over the foam, Fine ships are a-steaming And the sailor is dreaming, Dreaming of heaven, Dreaming of home. CHORUS: Now darkness is falling. A piper is calling. The melody lingers Wherever I roam. The shadows are stealing Over mountain and sheiling, And blessed is the sailor Dreaming of home. 2. I've seen Gibraltar, Monte Carlo and Malta, The isles of the south seas, The fountains of Rome. Fond memories I treasure But I'm filled with such pleasure As I lie dreaming, Dreaming of home. CHORUS 3. Down by the millside In the shade of the hillside, Young lovers once promised, Never to part, And oh, how I'm longing To be there at the dawning Holding you tightly, Joy of my heart. CHORUS Edited after album made available online for streaming |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dreaming of Home From: GUEST,Rossey Date: 25 Oct 24 - 03:12 PM The lyrics are already on this thread, so why guest felt it necessary to repeat without copyright credit is beyond me? As stated before David Silver and Ian Gourlay wrote it, two modern period stalwarts of the old heather and haggis Scottish tartan genre, both now deceased. |
