There is a Janet Jones thread, with a post last year saying that she was poorly
thread.cfm?threadid=65610#3813561
Various links there, YouTube etc and one to her website "Aire Valley" which I think is Rawdon/Leeds

I have just been listening to The Emily Brontë poem "November 1837" set to music and sung by Janet Jones, it is good.

Hi Roger

Janet sang with us(The Crofters) on the Watermill Album and Sing to me Lady was one of her best songs.

Sad news. I never met her, or even saw her live, but she released two albums in the early 1970s, particularly Sing To Me Lady. She had a beautiful clear voice, singing unaccompanied or with a very simple guitar accompaniment (her own?) Sadly there was no CD reissue, but many of the songs are available on youtube, including on her own youtube channel. Look out for Old Pendle, Dundee Lassie, Bird on a Wire, The Bastard of Normandy.

Hi everyone,

Yes I'm sorry to tell you that my darling wife passed away on 3rd May after a long illness. She passed peacefully at Wheatfield Hospice in Leeds and was never in pain.

Although she had been ill for a long time it still hit me hard - but she lives on through memories and her music.

I miss her.

From the youtube post of Janet's first LP "Sing to me lady", I was taken by her rendition of Buffy St Marie's "Now that the Buffalo's gone " and sang it in her memory at my folk club.
The song is in the DT. There may be minor variations in the lyrics

I am sorry to come so late to this thread. I never knew Janet but from the clip bradfordian posted above can see she was a wonderful singer. My condolences to all those who know and love her. I have added her name to the "In Memoriam" thread. Rest in peace Janet.

Peter

I was out of the country for most of May and so was unable to go to Janet's funeral.

I wrote this acrostic poem shortly after I was told about the seriousness of her condition and only a few days before her death.

Farewell

Frozen in time sweet memories of you
Are foremost in my mind on this sad day,
Rolling thoughts as waves upon the shore,
Energised by what is now decay.
We onward march to where we do not know
Ever reaching back across the miles,
Longing for that which is not here or now,
Lost in reality and all our trials.

Farewell

"November 1837" is a haunting and beautiful poem, about the wild moors, written by Emily Brontë when she was 19 years old. Set to music and so beautifully sung by Janet you can listen to it here:

November 1837

There are some lovely photos of Janet in the video.

I recently looked through an old stash of vinyl records that an old bloke gave to me about 10 years ago. He'd rescued them from an old people's home where he' was working as a caretaker when the home closed at least 10 years earlier. How thrilled I was to dis cover Janet's "Sing to my Lady "in mint condition signed "Best wishes from Janet Jones".She performs so beautifully. All of my children who were born in the 1980s love it too. It reflects the best of the 60s.Why wasn't she better known?

Janet's "Old Woman's Lament" is a fine song.

Saw her perform a few times at The Masons Arms Folk Club in Ossett, bought her album which i believe is worth quite a lot of money now, so sorry to hear of her passing, she can't have been very old.
