Subject: Tech: where has the HTML source gone? From: Jack Campin Date: 14 May 17 - 05:40 AM Mudcat has started doing things VERY differently. Used to be easy to use your browser's utility to view HTML source to see when Mudcat or a poster was doing something unusual (links to unexpected sites, foreign language typographical tricks). This was handy for situations like when I wanted to use coloured text - I hardly ever do, and I've never remembered the syntax, so my routine was to look up one of Mr Red's postings to see how he did it. Now, if you view the HTML source for a thread, you will see NONE of the content your browser displays. Just a small, standardized XHTML/CSS page. Mr Red's tricks are forever invisible. How is that done, and is the content still viewable in source form somewhere? |
Subject: RE: Tech: where has the HTML source gone? From: GUEST,Peter Date: 14 May 17 - 07:01 AM Found the content of your post by scrolling down to line 399 in the source using Firefox 51.0.1 |
Subject: RE: Tech: where has the HTML source gone? From: FreddyHeadey Date: 14 May 17 - 07:22 AM ? view-source: works for me. Chrome browser , Android tablet view-source:mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=162069 (I can't turn it in to a blicky) I don't read posts from 'GUEST ' or 'GUEST,Guest' |

Subject: RE: Tech: where has the HTML source gone? From: Mr Red Date: 15 May 17 - 06:11 AM There is always my pages for generating HTML, specifically for Mudcat mister.red/various/codes3.htm hash code generator 😌 😎. mister.red/various/mudtext.htm fancy colours etc - add for a no break space (manually in Mudcat) if needed. both links above should open in another Tab/window so you can switch between. But everything depends on your browser. Not looked inside Mudcat (I will), but I can tell you - Farcebook has about 180 JavaScript files, and they ain't that small neither! best of luck - PAL! |
Subject: RE: Tech: where has the HTML source gone? From: Jack Campin Date: 15 May 17 - 07:32 AM It looks like this still works, which I did a very long time ago, before I joined Mudcat. Code for a Stroop test. You try to read out the colours each word is displayed in.

Subject: RE: Tech: where has the HTML source gone? From: Mr Red Date: 15 May 17 - 09:16 AM you can be cruel sometimes! At least their isn't a magenta or cyan - that would really hurt. |
Subject: RE: Tech: where has the HTML source gone? From: DaveRo Date: 15 May 17 - 11:06 AM Adding 'view-source:' to the start of a URL should work in Firefox too, including Android, but I think you need the 'http://' bit. e.g. view-source:http://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=162069 |
Subject: RE: Tech: where has the HTML source gone? From: GUEST Date: 15 May 17 - 11:45 AM Nope Dave, at least not in Chrome here |
Subject: RE: Tech: where has the HTML source gone? From: treewind Date: 15 May 17 - 11:46 AM I think we've established that "view source" works for all of us, including Jack. What HAS happened (I guess since MudCat started showing adverts, which is a good few years back now) is that the source now starts with nearly 300 lines of ad-related Javascript before you get to the postings. And some of that is numerous consecutive blank lines, so you have to be inquisitive enough to keep scrolling down to see if there's more.... |
