The NABU thing doesn't promise any more than the words and you can't get a preview of the contents. Avoid.

Hello, Guest. I have a question for you. Do you wish to have a book with Scottish music in it so that you can play the music, possibly with friends?

If so, it's important to think about format. After years of playing, I can tell you that if you download sheet music, print it yourself, punch holes in the pages and put them in a binder, that you will have a much more enjoyable book than if you order a book already printed.

The first thing you need in a music book is that it stay open.

The Nabu paperback at Amazon seems to have 558 pages. Can you imagine getting a book that fat to stay open and balanced on your music stand?

2. Beware of books that have "songs" in the title but contain only lyrics, no music.

3. We are used to the idea that a volume is a big book, but in the olden days, volumes of music might be small. They didn't have to be like the volumes of a modern encyclopedia, for example. A modern reprint might include all 6 volumes and still not be very big.

I am not familiar with the NABU Press edition available at
Amazon - from the description, it might contain the SCOTS MUSICAL MUSEUM plus a couple of others. or might only contain
the 2nd-6th vols of Musical Museum (Burns contributed starting
with the 2nd vol.) Perhaps you can contact NABU to get a definitive
answer. Also determine if this is a print-on-demand offering rather
than a printed book.

The 6 volumes were reprinted (in 2 volumes) in the 1960's by FOLKLORE ASSOCIATES, and more recently by SCOLAR and AMADEUS PRESS. The latter in used condition from around forty dollars.

Oxford University Press appear to be about to publish the COMPLETE works of Burns. Vols II & III covering Scots Musical Museum due in August 2017.

Allowing for the cost of a few reams of paper, you could download the scanned volumes from the link above, print them off and still save yourself a fortune.

I searched Bookfinder.com using both "scots musical museum" and "burns musical museum" and it appears that several of the recent "on-demand" publishers have included "in six volumes" in their title despite only offering one volume. Buyer beware.

or

A Select Collection of Original Scottish Airs for the Voice came out in five volumes between 1799 and 1818, and included contributions from Burns, Walter Scott and Thomas Campbell. Thomson published folksong arrangements by Joseph Haydn,[2] Ludwig van Beethoven[3] and Johann Nepomuk Hummel.[4]

The first is readily available in a 2 vol reprint.

Does anybody know where I can buy a facsimile reprint of the six-volumed Musical museum, edited by George Thomson, and contributed to by Robert Burns?

I see a few on the internet, but it is not clear if they contain all six volumes

I have been using the internet for the source material, but I would really like a physical reprint.
