I thought it would be helpful to consolidate the recommendations concerning double posts.

First (and most important) - Always assume that your Submit button has worked correctly, no matter what sort of weird message you get back (and there are some doozies). If you submit again you will almost always get a double post.

Second - To check if your post was received, go back to the main forum page and hit your browser's RELOAD button. This will load a new copy of the main page. The BACK button usually just refreshes the page from the browser's cache, so it won't show any changes.

Third - You should see your appropriate thread name at the top of the list, colored so as to show it has changed since you last loaded it. Just click it again, your message should be there. If it's not there, it's OK to post again.

One more tip - If you've entered a long message and are afraid of losing it, select and copy it to the clipboard. Then, if you're really concerned, you can paste it into Notepad (or whatever) and save it.

Whoah, there, Tiger!
Generally, you've given good advice, but I ask everyone that they please Do NOT click on the "refresh" button on your browser when you are using Mudcat. Clicking on the "refresh" button is one of the big things that causes double posting, along with double-clicking on the "submit" box. To refresh your screen, use the controls Max has provided, particularly the grey "refresh" button/box on the Forum menu page.

If you do double post, it's no big deal. Dick Greenhaus does it all the time because he has a computer that stutters (grin). If we haven't deleted your duplicate posts in an hour or so, just go to the Help (click) Forum and post a request for the duplicate messages to be deleted (be sure to give the thread name), and a Joe or JoeClone® will cheerfully delete the duplicates (hey, Clones, be sure you post a message in the Help forum, saying that you've deleted the duplicates, so the rest of us don't go looking for them). There's a link to the Help Forum on the top of most pages at Mudcat - be sure to check out all those interesting links up top.

Thank you.

Thanks a lot.

Thank you very much.

Thank you very, very much.

Many thanks.

Thanks a million.

I'm very grateful.

I really appreciate this help.

You can call me a dunce with a computer, but please don't say I have no sense of humor.

Love, Mary

Yes Joe I posted two hippopotami last night because my PC lied to me, claiming that it had not sent the posting. And who said computers aren't becoming more human? It then proceeded to lie to me again. I'm not stupid, so I checked, as any suspicious parent would. My punishment was to leave it in a dark room for 24 hours without any further contact - the punishment can often be harder on the punisher, so I eventually capitulated. Regards, John
