Several years have passed and I am looking for a song my husband used to sing :

No more, my lawd,
I am tired and weary,
No more.

That is all I remember and as he has dementia he cannot remember either. Can anyone help?

I am looking for words my husband used to sing -starting No more, my lawd, I am tired, I am weary, no more.

He has dementia and has asked me to write down all the songs he used to sing! We are at 170 and counting......

Also stuck on The prettiest train I ever saw was in Alabama, in Alabam.....

Thanks for the question, Jan. I moved your other post into this thread because it's confusing to people if you split a discussion over two threads.

I suppose the easiest answer would be the song Roger in Baltimore posted in the "No More, My Lord" thread (click). I thought it also could be Peace in the Valley or No More Auction Block for Me.

None of these matches your specifications exactly, but I thought it worthwhile to suggest them.

Pentangle did a haunting recording of their version of this song:
My transcription of the recording:

NO MORE, MY LORD
(As recorded by Pentangle)

No more, no more
No more, no more
And I'll never turn back no more

Jesus, He's the one
He's the one I'm looking for
And I'll never turn back no more

Tell me where, Tell me where
Tell me where he can be found
And I'll never turn back no more

Down on my knees, down on my knees
Try and love if you please
And I'll never turn back no more

Ooh, ooh
Ooh
Ooh, oh, ooh
No more, no more
No more, no more
And I'll never turn back no more

"No More, My Lord" also appears in our Digital Tradition Folk Song Database.

No More, My Lord

No More, My Lord

Cho: No more, my Lord,
    No more, my Lord,
Lord, I'll never turn back no more.

I found in Him a resting place,
And He have made me glad.

Jesus, the Man I am looking for,
Can you tell me where He's gone?

Go down, go down, among flower yard,
And perhaps you may find Him there.

A prison holler collected by Alan Lomax in 1947.

Couldn't find anything for The Prettiest Train, I'm afraid.

How sure are you about the "Alabama" bits?

"Prettiest train, oh Lord, I've ever seen, dear Lordy
It runs from Jackson back to New Orleans.
