"Deprecate" and yes to both.

It's a systems integration word for dropping a module or subsystem from the process specification. For software it's the Application Programming Interface (API.)

The product manager and team go away. Developers are on notice to transition to the newer process module. Quality engineers can ignore it during validation.

Plan on the first few (non)mandatory W10 updates going poorly if you decide to keep it.

Apparently amazon web services (amazonaws.com) - which anyone can use, including free - is often used to host phishing attacks, hence it's on the google greylist. Not a good place to host a download for that reason. You might find the download on another site such as cnet or file hippo.

The Drawing tools in EXcel and Calc are a lot finer than those in Word Processors. I've used them for Fretboard diagrams, blank tab and also simple notation.

Microsoft isn't "getting rid" of Paint. The word is "deprecate."

Future OS updates will come with Paint 3D in its stead but MS-Paint will still be available for free in the MS Store.

Same deal as Movie Maker pretty much.

I've used Excel and LibreOffice Calc for simple one-line and ladder diagrams and floor plans. Seems to work for the customer.

I'm not surprised Windows warns people off downloading free software. If everyone did it they'd go broke.

On Linux it's not such a problem. There is a facility called the software manager. Anything this downloads is safe. I downloaded Pinta that way with no problems.

I've been doing a lot of downloading recently some of it stuff the software manager doesn't do. I've managed to get most of EasyABC working and needed to get several files downloaded. The thing that really annoys me is the sites who offer you one program but if you press the download button they send you something else. You really have to read the small print. I would have thought that if your anti-virus and anti-malware stuff is good you should be OK.

Oh, and Richard Mellish, there is Snip now - just screenshot the piece you want. I used to use Paint for that too, but now just use it for painting.

I use Paint for screenshots: Ctrl-PrintScreen to save the window of interest to the clipboard, then paste into Paint and save. What would be the easiest alternative? A full photo-editing package (such as Serif PhotoPlus which I use) can do the job but is slower to load and more cumbersome for saving.

I'm very much with you on that, Stanron. In the same way that I use Notepad more often than Word for 'back-of-the-envelope' stuff, Paint is quick and easy in a way that Photoshop isn't.

I used Paint to do pixel by pixel line diagrams, such as wiring circuits and simple mechanical diagrams. When I moved to Linux it took a while to find a suitable alternative. There are several graphics programs but most seemed to be too sophisticated. I now use a program called Pinta which does all that Paint used to do for me. There is a Windows version of Pinta if you want to check it out. Like most Linux software it is free to use, donations are accepted.

Actually, I see that Explorer calls Paint to do the edit. I expect they'll replace it with something that works the same.

I use it once in awhile, usually for something vital like adding an hilarious speech-bubble to a photograph. I do use it from time to time to make a promo poster, though ......

I use Paint often, not for itself but to reduce the size of photographs for use on the web when uploading something for sale online. Ebay where most of you are, TradeMe where I am.
Never did use it for anything else.
I'll have to find a program to do that job.

I agree with Acme... when I first heard of "freeware" 20 years ago, image viewing & editing programs were some of the first things I ever downloaded.
I 'may' have opened Paint once or twice, but have never actually used it for anything.

Paint is one of those little programs that I knew about, used rarely, and kept in mind as a suggestion in case someone needed some way to alter an image or make a sign and nothing else was available. But so many programs do the same thing that it certainly is superfluous.
