are you the art thieme? (singer) valdy, from what i've been able to find out, is a canadien singer from the late sixties and early seventies. not much of his stuff is avaiable.

He is indeed THE Art Thieme.........a treasured friend and resource to us on the Mudcat. It would be time well spent if all new 'Catters were to go up to the top of this or any page, drop down the "Quick Links" box, and do a Username search on Art Thieme. You will then know why he is one of the most important characters in our town.

Valdy is still around. He did folky stuff in the '60s and '70s, then a lot of children's stuff and in the last few years he's been thumping the drum on environmental issues. I haven't followed him, but I know he works out of British Columbia — probably Vancouver — and his stuff should still be available.

Maybe one of the other Canuck M'catters can help a little more. If not, let me know and I'll look up what I can find on him.

Last I heard Valdy is a longtime resident of Salt Spring Island in BC. He's still a very popular performer at Canadian festivals, although maybe doesn't get to as many of them as he used to. He's always had a strongly environmentalist stance and was probably the "brand name" for folk music in Canada in the 80's.

And he's good, too.

Both Valdy & Garnet Rogers played a fund-raiser for Ruthven House (just outside Cayuga) a couple of years back. I recall they almost came to blows over who should have the final (i.e. "star") set; each insisting the other should have pride of place. Pretty darn fine gentlemen both, methinks.

Thanks folks. I hadn't realized this thread was going on hger. I had no idea Valdy was a person. Did not mean any offense to any of his fans or to him. Now I know and will search out his music.

Valdy is now touring with Gary Fjellgaard on their "Still contenders" tour. I hear it is a good show. Both are great guys.
