The WORLD FOLK MUSIC ASSOCIATION announces concert:

WFMA - Remembering Oscar Brand

Oscar Brand was a legendary singer-songwriter and storyteller, and for 70 years, until his death on September 30, 2016, he was the host of Folksong Festival (the longest running radio show with a single host) on WNYC in New York.  Everybody who was anybody in the folk world appeared on Oscar's show.  And Oscar was a very good friend of WFMA, participating in many of our annual concerts, as well as several solo concerts.  We will miss his stories, songs and humor.  It is an honor to be able to present a concert celebrating his life and his numerous contributions to the world of folk music.

The performers scheduled* to appear include:
The Limeliters
Christine Lavin
Carolyn Hester
David Buskin
Josh White, Jr.
Roy Zimmerman
The Accomplices
(Jon Pickow, Jordan Brand, John Foley)
Dave Rowe Jonathan Segal
James Brandon

Thomas.

Thanks, Thomas—should be a wonderful show! As a Manitoba lad, I've always sort of liked that Oscar was Winnipeg-born, and a nearly exact contemporary of my dad, who died the same year. I have performed "Something to sing about" dozens of times this year, Canada's 150th. I especially like teaching it to younger generations, at least the refrain, and always tell them a bit about the Brand.
