Mbo says he's at "ECU". Is that Eastern Connecticut, Eastern Colorado, "Ecole Chicago", or what ?

More generally, what are Mudcatter's alma maters, besides the school of hard knocks ?

Just to start us off: One of my alma matres is a tiny two-room kindergarten which no longer exists. (I think it was something of an anachronism even when I attended it.) Another is University of Illinois (which has one of the better academic libraries it has been my privilege to use. I often miss it!)

Did I graduate ? Maybe, but I ain't telling; it's not relevant to this thread. I will say that I am the better off for having attended those schools.

I started at a two-room kindergarten, too. It was the original elementary school in Garrett Park, MD and now is just the kindergarten building. From there to Kensington Jr. High (no longer standing) and Walter Johnson High School. 3 years at Juniata College finished me off as far as formal education goes, except for various training classes for various jobs along the way. Like Mark Twain, I never let schooling interfere with my education.

ECU in my case stands for East Carolina University, in Greenville, North Carolina--also known as THE PIRATES! Go Pirates! The Pirate football team is playing Texas Christian in the Mobile Alabama Bowl on the 22nd. We're gonna win!

I attended 3 different elementary schools which had relatively little impact on me. After that was A.G. Cox middle school (6th through 8th grade), also known as Darkest Pit of Hades Middle. It was awful, the place where I obtained or reinforced every insecurity I have. I'm pretty much over it, though. I currently attend D.H. Conley High School, which has given me a few teachers for whom I thank the powers that be every day. Next year, I'll be at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, a public libearl arts school situated in the heart of the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. It should be interesting.

If you want to know about other alma maters, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School (in Jacksonville, NC) for kindergarten and half of first grade, and Mission Public School (in Oceanside, CA) for the other half. After that, it was home school for 12 years until Coastal Carolina Community College, which I graduated from earlier this year.

One of my cousins used to teach at UNC -- Prof. Sandy Smith. If he's still there next year, look him up and tell him his 'little cousin from Texas' says Hi!

I'd have to say my most formative years in school were at Pineville and Henderson Elementary and University of Dallas -- especially the keg parties on Ground Hog Day -- who knew Cistercians could party like that!

Is he at UNC or UNC-A? There are several campuses in the UNC system. (Asheville, Chapel Hill(the main campus)Greensboro, Wilmington, and Charlotte, as well as ECU, W(estern)CU, and School of the Arts.)

SUNY-Binghamton (pronounced "Soonie")(New York State) {now referred to as Binghamton University) for undergraduate work...and masters work at College of New Rochelle (New York State as well.)

Now if only I had continued with my plans to go to Simmon's School of Mortuary Science, I'd be raising lots of eyebrows! LOL

Another Upstate NY'er, I see. I'd never badmouth the good ol' Simmons School-they did the job on my dad earlier this year! The funeral guy I picked out because of his lower prices (and his black sense of humor!) subcontracted out to them!

I changed schools 6 times between Kindergarten and 8th grade, spending about half the time in Catholic schools. Then I went to a Catholic High School. The education was pretty good, but it took me till I was 25 to shake off the religious indoctrination. I think the main way religions get people to believe all that stuff is by brainwashing them while they're young.

There was no money available for me to go away to college, even SUNY, and I really did not want to continue to live at home with my dad. So once I found a job that I kept for 2 months, I got my own apartment-$80 a month in 1967! The next year I took a nanny job and went to Onondaga Community College-I don't know if anybody but you would have heard of it!

Much later, living in Philadelphia, I got a Bachelor's in Social Work from Temple University. I'm still in the Phila area-MUCH richer in folk music than Syracuse, and a MUCH more reasonable climate.

Happy snow season, and have patience-it'll all melt SOMEtime!

Just to start the ball rolling from the other side of the pond: After starting off in local primary schools,I was convent educated from the age of 7 (which explains a lot). I attended St. Anne's RC in Buxton, Derbyshire, and then 2 all-girls senior schools: Loreto College for Girls in Manchester, and Loreto Grammar School (ex St. Catherine's) in Nottingham. Then at 18 I escaped and did a foundation course at Derby Art College (now part of Derby University) and went on to the LCP (London College of Printing) where I studied graphic design in the good ol' days before computers. Needless to say, I do not use my qualification these days - I am of the old "cut and paste by hand with cow gum" brigade!

ps-I have 2 badges which read "the nuns made me dress like this" and "I survived a convent school". Pity I didn't have them 12 years ago when we had a reunion at my Nottingham school.

Still in the UK. Poundswick Grammar School, Wythenshawe, Manchester. Liverpool College of Occupational Therapy, plus loads of different colleges to gain my certificate in Social Services.
