Not realy .. This place is just to much fun, but I'll play music with you...In fact I think this is a good one for a bumper sticker ... But if I get rid of the car..... Merry Merry....Guy |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 18 Dec 99 - 01:18 AM Yeah, Billo, if you'd ever turn off your computer you might actually make it over to the Starry Plough or to Quinn's Lighthouse where I'm now one of the band--places where where people DO make music: kind of the front lines of the struggle. Either place welcomes bones/spoons/washboard/whatever players. --seed |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: Mike Billo Date: 18 Dec 99 - 09:35 AM To the front! But I warn you. I've got a nose flute, and I don't know how to use it. |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: gillymor Date: 18 Dec 99 - 10:38 AM I'm going to hollow out my monitor, fill it full of popcorn seeds and make a shaking gourd out of it. Does anyone know of a website where they can tell me how to do this? Seriously though Fortunato, you are fighting the good fight and I'm trying to do my part down here on the Southern front. Frankie

From: fulurum Date: 18 Dec 99 - 05:25 PM to qoute schooner; somewhere between your noon hour and alarm clock setting day, if you are lucky, must be lucky, but we are all lucky anyway, set aside your routine pleasures, for this most important thing, and take the time to teach your children to sing. i'm with you |

Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 19 Dec 99 - 03:05 AM I just found this wonderful book: Great Folk Instruments to Make and Play and I'm gonna have my musice appreciation students spend an afternoon a week in the art lab at school making such as thumb pianos and ektars (the book even shows how to make hammered dulcimers--watch out, Catspaw, yer gonna have competition). --seed |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: Fortunato Date: 20 Dec 99 - 11:51 AM Bumper Stickers and Tee-shirts. Great Idea. Spread the word. Grass roots networking, etc. HOMEMADE MUSIC, NOW! Homemade instruments, YES! Nose Flutes, Hambone, comb and tissues paper! Play the spoons, play your head, play your face. Make music yourself! Play a person a tune and you give 5 minutes pleasure; teach them to make their own and you give them a lifetime of pleasure! Homemade Music, NOW! |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: _gargoyle Date: 20 Dec 99 - 12:02 PM Frankee...right idea, but popcorn seeds are too small, and they don't resonate.
Pop the keys off the keyboard used with the monitor, now you have an exquistite instrument. |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: Áine Date: 20 Dec 99 - 12:06 PM So, all you Homemade Music, Now! folks -- who's going write the theme song for the campaign? Go for it!! And when you finish it, send it in to The Mudcat Songbook, OK? -- Áine |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 20 Dec 99 - 02:53 PM There are lots already: "Bangin' on the Pots and Pans," "Daddy Sang Bass," "All God's Creatures Got a Place in the Choir(?)"--and of course, "Momma Don't 'low." But I'll get to work on one (as I get to work on my own instrument building project this holiday). --seed |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Dec 99 - 03:57 PM Yo seed!!!!! Hey, if you're book doesn't have an easy plan for an HD, I'll send you one......And BTW...Does your book have plans for a fretless mountain banjo? Want some? Spaw |

I think I have the same book mentioned but under a different title but the HD in it is really small and has only one bridge. Jon W. |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: gillymor Date: 23 Dec 99 - 09:54 AM Too late GG, I've already turned the keyboard on end, strapped it to my chest and play it like a washboard. F |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: GUEST,Miles Date: 27 Nov 05 - 05:11 PM I totally agree with this idea, but..... What is a guy like me to do? I love music, all kinds of music. Problem is I can't play a record properly, much less an instrument. Forget singing. I am awfull. Doesn't stop me though! |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: leftydee Date: 27 Nov 05 - 08:21 PM Here's great website for home made instruments. I believe there is a mudcat link somewhere. Anyway...... Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: Ebbie Date: 27 Nov 05 - 09:02 PM Great idea, Fortunato! (No wonder you are fortunate) I have printed out your instructions and I will pin them on my wall. We can always use more homemade music. Besides it will remind me to pick up the mandolin more often and to learn to play the dobro that is patiently waiting on my couch. |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: GUEST,TIA Date: 27 Nov 05 - 09:56 PM I'm in! but I do have to keep the 'Pooder, 'cause I use Finale Songwriter daily. However, broqadcast TV and radio - I'm outa there. Seriously - where are the bumper stickers? |
Subject: RE: HOMEMADE MUSIC NOW! From: Kaleea Date: 28 Nov 05 - 12:41 AM Wow! That's how I was raised-with "homemade" Music most evenings. When I was very young, we only watched a little tv-but we had fun playing piano & singing. I was singing harmony parts by about 2nd grade. I thought harmony was the best thing in the world! We sang very old songs, frontier days songs, gay 90's songs-that's 1890s--popular songs, broadway, old fashioned gospel like Mahalia, & whatever else there was my parents or we kids knew-even the early Beatles as they were new then. To this day, a family get together is never complete without gathering around the piano & grabbing whatever instruments are available & singing. Is it any wonder that I abhor electronic stuff & have to be among the acousticly gifted? |
