A singer I always loved----a good writer, singer, and interpreter with exquisite taste in all the songs he recorded, including this Bob McDill classic.

Very sorry to hear we have lost this great and talented musician.
Two songs I really like that he sang are "Lay Down Beside Me" and
"Amanda."
I never saw Don in concert but admired his music.

He started out more as a 'folkie'........as part of the Pozo Seco Singers, with Susan Taylor and Lofton Kline.

i played at the English part of the Wembley Festival the year Don played the mainstage. I was playing the conference centre next door. i got to see a lot of country stars that year Don Everly, Freddie Hart, Vernon Oxford.

It was Don's You're My Best FRiend that made me realise I'd like to try to sing country music. I remember hearing it and and thinking - that is SO like Banks of the Ohio in structure, and such a clever song for saying what so many of us feel.

he was a great inspiration.
