Subject: RE: Obit: Don Williams, R.I.P. (1939-2017) From: Big Al Whittle Date: 13 Sep 17 - 10:08 AM i played at the English part of the Wembley Festival the year Don played the mainstage. I was playing the conference centre next door. i got to see a lot of country stars that year Don Everly, Freddie Hart, Vernon Oxford. It was Don's You're My Best FRiend that made me realise I'd like to try to sing country music. I remember hearing it and and thinking - that is SO like Banks of the Ohio in structure, and such a clever song for saying what so many of us feel. he was a great inspiration. |
