There will be no September Press Room (In Exile or Otherwise) Shanty, Forebitter and Foc's'le Ballad Session in Portsmouth, NH.

The Press Room has been closed June, July, and August and is still closed. It will at some point, after necessary renovations, will be opening under new ownership, so we met for June, July, and August at Liar's Bench, but they declined extending our stay through September (or longer).

I've exhausted all the possible temporary venues I can think of. Not only for the monthly shanty sing, but for the regular Friday Anglo-Celtic trad session.

Right now there is absolutely no new news. The last news I sent out a few weeks ago was that according to the general manager of The Press Room, there has been progress on the renovations, but they are moving ahead at a snail's pace and the transfer of ownership has not yet taken place.

But, this Thursday, September 14, 2017, on WICN (http://www.wicn.org/ -- you can listen online) out of Worcester, MA, on Nick Noble's "The Folk Revival" (7-11 Eastern time) there will be a live 4-hour promo of the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival. And the festival itself will be September 23-24 in Portsmouth, NH. See Performers There is probably more information on the festival's Facebook page, but that would require you to be a member of Facebook.

I'm remaining optimistic about the Press Room situation...

Linn

I'm pleased to see the PMFF website has been updated a bit.

Since the Press Room is still closed, Bruce MacIntyre has located a venue for the PMFF Unofficial Kick-off session on the Friday evening before the Saturday and Sunday of the festival. It will be held at the Thirsty Moose Taphouse, 21 Congress Street, Portsmouth. When I verify the time (probably 4:30-8:30 or 9:00), I'll let everyone know.

Linn-

Thanks for the update.

I do look forward to the eventual re-opening of the Press Room. What a session that will be!
