Back from alaska, no legal size moose but wow what fun, saw a bunch of moose and lots of brown bears. I figured I was under gunned so I just bought a ruger 454 casull. Well my hand has been known to clutch a beer from time to time. I think I would like to continue that.. That gun is way more than a 44 mag. The blast is felt through your body.. 300 grain.
Holy crap.. Hope I never need it as getting eaten by a bear is less intense.. Ever shoot one ugh don't Lol.. Great gun however

Just about to go on our Elg hunt in October- the landowner and the Norwegian Wild Life authorities tell us what animals are on our ticket. We normally have five allocated to our group for the week (mature bull; two one and a half year olds; two calves) It is very rare to get a cow and they prefer it and we agree that any orphaned calf on is preferable toto shoot as it would not survive the winter, or one calf from pair of twins - never a single calf accompanied by its mother.

Dan, if you ever actually have to use that big-bore Ruger for its intended purpose of defense against a charging large animal, its recoil will feel like a .22 target pistol.

You see, when you're target shooting with a hand-cannon like that, you unconsciously clench up your anal sphincter. That causes the recoil to reverberate through your entire body. But when a Griz is charging at you, the first thing you do is relax your anal sphincter and shit your pants. That gives the recoil a path out of your body.

Don't believe me? Next time you feel like shooting the thing, try it while sitting on the toilet.

Lol, moose depends on where in alaska. I went for the big guys so I needed four brow tines.. Saw three brow tines but no fours.. Loads of cows walking by... Massive critters for sure. Some places in alaska its any bull.. Some are three brow tines.. Others are at least 50 inch rack.. Changes by the population census

As for side irons, we Canucks don't use them. Against the law. I personally don't like that law but I understand it. It was enacted in 1933 and it really doesn't fit "today's situation" but you have to understand the British Parliamentary system (which we have in Canada). That system works like this... don't change any laws unless they are more restrictive no matter if the laws are stunnedasmearse*.

Now. Regarding a side arm that can break your wrist and make you deaf... if it saves you from being eaten, well... BANG!

I myself don't feel the need to shoot dragons. They are cute and cuddly and make great pets. I used to have a pet dragon named "Bimby." He (or she, we were never sure and you don't just go looking around on a dragon) breathed fire and would warm the our hovel in the winter.

But I do have a rather large revolver I inherited. It's a .56-100 which my grandpa used in Montana. Smokeless powder, of course, and pushes a 850 grain bullet at 2,900 fps. When grandpa fired it whole mountains fell down, as did grandpa. He only fired it once, because the recoil broke both of his arms. He always called it "a REAL MAN'S gun. It was made for him, so it's one of a kind. Ammunition is kinda expensive, too.

My Howa 308 will tack nails every bit as good as my high end weatherby 06. They are a Japanese amoray company that supplies high end military sniper rifles to US and many others. Their sporting rifles are all high end yet less than the shit Remingtons made today. Remington still has safety problems on their rifles
