Hiya,

Oh, how could I forget Gary Moore ??!! 'Power Of The Blues' is a brilliant album. At least there's Joe Bonamassa (spelling ??), and his playing's so similar I have to remind myself it's not Gary Moore.

That's Bo Diddley (not Diddly) if anybody cares, or even if they don't.

The late Barry Finn credited Screamin' Jay Hawkins with recording Who Do You Love? (way up at the top of this thread.) Actually it was written and recorded by Bo Diddly in 1956. There were a number of covers, but not by Screamin' Jay, who was famous for the song I Put a Spell On You, and fathering 55 children.

Hiya,

Love blues (don't think there's a blues song I don't like) Maddy Prior's a big favourite, both with Steeleye & without. So much so that if you're trying to get me to a gig all you have to say is "the band sound like Steeleye" and I'll jump at the chance to go.

Ah yes, the water front! The Markert, the aquarium! Love those places! Never been on the underground tour. Sporting events are fun. I've always wanted to see the Sonics! Haven't done that yet, at all!

Former Yakimite, what part of Oregon do you live in? I remember loving the coast! Crator Lake and area around there (which I believe was a desert). I didn't like Portland much though. I'd rather be in Lincon City.

Former Yakimite: Eagles soaring over Rimrock Lake, the salty old s.o.b's at the Old Town Pump Tavern, asparagus, jonagolds, 4th of July pow-wow, chasing cattle on the Satus, little league baseball games on a hot summer afternoon, putting no bait on your hook and being happy just to dangle, the drive to the beach and the glorious smell of ocean when you get there. Take care and pass the midnight hugs around your piece of heaven too! Elle

Benjamin, JenEllen: Around Yakima, I used to love fishing on Dog Lake early in the crisp mornings, Golfing at Westwood West, fresh cut asparagus in the spring, juicy sweet peaches (Red Havens), an occasional Ike triumph over Davis H.S., Softball games at 16th and Nob Hill in the snow. Seattle is really nice on the waterfront, Pike Street market, the Aquarium, underground tour, Mariners games are fun, Seahawks too. Give everyone hugs at midnight tomorrow! That's the one thing nobody can get too many of..Happy New Year!

Such joy at finding Northwesterners. As far as Yakima goes, Former Yakimite is right, it's pretty much the armpit of the Northwest. But, as in all things in life, you have to do with it what you can. We have a SMALL folk community, some concerts, and a yearly festival, but other than that, you've got to travel for anything worthwhile.

Darlin' Em, you probably should have seen Heidi Muller. She's definately worth it. All of her stuff is available on Folk Legacy Records. She does a lot of good music, as well as workshops, and teaching mountain dulcimer. Her "Good Road" is the theme song for our local folk radio show. I can't recommend any one album. She's a good writer, and she writes to suit her voice. She writes a lot of homegrown stuff. Her best writing, in my humble opinion is her "Average Woman". I also love "Casseopeia" (it's the best song ever written about the god-awful drive on Hwy26 to Othello) Other good ones are ones she does with Dan Maher(another cutie). "Long Way to Another Friend" and "Don't Let Me Come Home a Stranger" spring to mind. If you have Dan's "Winter Whisky" album, she's singing with him on "One More Time". I think I have a website saved somewheres.....I'll look for it after a cup of tea. Sending love right back 'atcha. Elle

Former Yakimite,

I haven't heard anything about winter in Yakima. An uncle of mine from the mid west was there in the summer and told me that the heat was horrable. I don't travel to Yakima much as I have nothing to do, no one to visit, so I don't have much memory or knowlege of Yakima.

I do love Seattle though.

I love Honey and all of you and most of everyone named here. Oh hell! I love everybody. Yes, even him. He does add some character here, even though he makes us mad as hell sometimes.

Who do I love? Perinneals like Etta, Ella, BB, Bill Monroe, Clancys, Waterson:Carthy, Nic Jones, Patsy Cline and Hank Williams always set a spark. Latest loves include a lot of homegrown local northwest stuff like Janis Carper (gravel voiced goddess), Heidi Muller, Dan Maher, Brian Bowers (cheers emily, he IS a great big chunk of sugar!) Steve and Shelly Hines, and Kate Rusby. Forever Loves: flannel, warm chocolate chip cookies, my brainless dog, Lancelot Link (hey Marta), British comedies on late night PBS, the Jungle Book soundtrack, my English grandmother shaking her fanny to Harry Belafonte, my Scottish grandmother still believing that Aerosmith is one guy named Harold Smith (he's just REALLY REALLY GOOD), catching a glimpse of Orion on a cloudless night, friends singing goofy songs on my answering machine, creatures (human or otherwise) that come to me broken and leave me whole, the homeless guy that writes me sonnets in exchange for my cutting his hair, and curling up with a blanket, cat covering my feet, with a glass of good wine and a book to be lost in. That's where I'm headed! Later, Elle

This being Christmas, my dear wife and I thought we should make an effort. As the kids are now grown we had the opportunity for a lie in on Christmas morning and found ourselves making love, albeit a little half-heartedly. After a while she looked at me and said, "What's the matter? Can't you think of anyone either?".

I agree re Hey Arnold.. brilliant (albeit I'm afriad to say American.. don't dump on me yet.. I absolutely love Doug.. I was that kid at school )
Did I mention Sandy Denny and Maddy Prior in my original list, if not they are added here.. plus of course a very special Babe who lives currently in LA..
Anyone seeing the last episode of the current series of Ballykissangel will take note of Brian Quigley's speech at his daughter's wedding re love and the geographical boundaries it can transcend
I just feel somewhat sorry sometimes, that all the people I have grown to know and love here on the mudcat, I may never ever get to meet..l still I live in hope.
I'm sure we can keep this thread going a while yet

Rocky and Bullwinkle are great! I always liked Mr. Peabody and his Boy, Sherman, the best.
As for newspaper-type cartoons, Calvin and Hobbes will always be my favorite, followed by Bloom County/Outland. I like Dilbert, but the stuff that occurs in the office there is getting awfully repetitive.

Being a product of the 60's, I gerw up in the Hannah Barbara generation. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I liked them. Hong Kong Phooey, Jabber Jaws, and Josie and the pussy cats. What can i say, they were on on Saturday morning when I got up before the rest of the family. I never liked Scooby doo, but my 5 year old daughter loves him now from the cartoon network, I still don't. Also the Rugrats is funny and we both enjoy it. She loves CATDOG and I hate it. Disney movies will always be great movies to me, but then I grew up with 70's cartoons, so what do you expect.

As for who I love. In descending order, my partner Andy, my daughter Drew, my parents, my psuedo daughter Sarah, my music and all the friends that have brought the music to me and enabled me to play with them. I was a fan of old time and folk music for about five years before I decided I wanted to play it.The encouragement and support from all the other musicians when I started was wonderful. The community that we have become a part of in the Florida Folk Music scene is extra special. At the festivals, there is a sense of a small town community. It's like a family reunion of what your family would be if you could hand pick them. My hand picked family includes JU, Wanda, Billy, and Andy. The music we make together exceed anything we could do separately. When together, there is nothing better. I just hope we can play again together real soon.

Our lives have been a very real study in constrasts this year. Making a CD, playing at more festivals than ever, getting a Grammy nomination, losing parents, dealing with life threatening cancer, spending lots of quality time with people we love and respect. Through all this, the bottom line is I love life and all the challenges it gives us, and if it don't kill ya, it will only make you stronger.

To life strength, faith and love, Kristi

Bill Cosby = Fat Albert

See, I'm not so bad with the voices myself! Okay, so that's the only one I really know.

As for Itchy and Scratchy, there was an episode where they tried to ad a third charactor and Homer met the voice of itchy and scratchy. Mick, is the charactor in that episode the same (or based on) the person who really does their voices? As for Side Show Bob, I know Phil Hartman did a lot of classic Simpsons charactors (like Linol Hutts and more). If I had to guess, Phil would be my answer. Would I be right Mick? I do love the Simpsons I must say.

I know that Bart Simpson is done by that woman, something Cartwright. Thomas the Tank Engine was narrated by Ringo Starr, right? Sideshow Bob was done by Kelsey Grammer, and Bugs, Daffy, and Tweety were all done by Mel Blanc. I know Wallace is done by a well-known British actor, but I can't remember his name, he used to be on this show...

Does anyone remember "Toxy and The Toxic Crusaders"?

"Toxic Crusaders--they're gross--but they still get the girls." I never watched that one. It looked stoopid. How about "Mr.Bogus"? he was pretty cool. And another old favorite of mine "Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers." It had that classic line my sister and I still do--Chip & Dale fly throw someone's window on a paper airplane. When the come out the other side of the building, there's a toaster hanging by it's cord off the airplane. Dale says "WOW! Look what followed me home, Chip! Can I keep it!"

Ha! Classic!
