Subject: RE: chords: Small victory, or suggestions. From: Date: 19 Dec 99 - 09:48 AM What made this thread so cryptic???? Oh well, Thanks Metchosin, I'll have to see if I can find that around here. Norther VT is pretty limited you know. Hummer. |
Subject: RE: chords: Small victory, or suggestions. From: Midchuck Date: 19 Dec 99 - 10:24 AM It was published in Sing Out 2,3 years ago, lyrics, melody and chords...I can probably find which issue with a little poking around, if you have access to a collection of back issues. |
Subject: RE: chords: Small victory, or suggestions. From: campfire Date: 19 Dec 99 - 11:49 AM Must have been a little longer ago, Midchuck. I just checked mine back through 1996 without success. campfire |
Subject: RE: chords: Small victory, or suggestions. From: Midchuck Date: 19 Dec 99 - 09:32 PM You're right, it isn't in any of the recent issues. But I'm sure I saw it printed, and virtually sure it was in a Sing Out. I went to Sing Out's website and went through their list of available back issues. Vol. 35, #1, which would have been about 1990, had a feature article on Garnet. I'm pretty sure it was published with that article. I must have read it more recently, or maybe my time sense is the first thing to go with the onset of senility. |
Subject: RE: chords: Small victory, or suggestions. From: Humingbird Date: 20 Dec 99 - 08:20 PM If you should find it, please feel free to email me the chords. I have all the lyrics, and I ordered the CD today, took some finding on the net, but i persevered (sp?). I would greatly appreciate it. I just think this is a beautiful song, and my sister would go wild for it, being a horse person as she is, and a singer/guitarist. Campfire, havn't seen you around for a while. Welcome back?? I need to return your book to you also. MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL. Hummer. |

Subject: RE: chords: Small victory, or suggestions. From: BK Date: 05 Mar 02 - 11:52 PM Having watched, from front row center, Garnett do it in person in a small venue, & knowing his commanding mastery of guitar, I decided to try it a-capella at the next Cowboy poetry & music get together; Preliminary putzing around suggests it should work well, be different, allow time to slow down, speak certain parts & make more emphasis where I want it, & be a sort of transition between the usual song format & the poems. OTOH; I don't remember the chords, but they were pretty straightforeward to work out by ear, in several keys, while experimenting. Fantastic song, based on a true story & I heard she's had more colts since! Cheers & good luck, BK |
Subject: RE: chords: Small victory, or suggestions. From: Clinton Hammond Date: 05 Mar 02 - 11:58 PM The colt mentioned in the song did go one to win The Grand Nationals (?) and also inspired a rose breeder in Stratford, Ontario to breed a rose called "Small Victory"... all proceeds from which go to boarding old race horses... The chords themselves are pretty simple as BK above says... but if ya wanna do the song justice, you'll wanna learn the runs and fills and leady bits... That's why -I- wanna get the article mentioned above... so's I can learn it the way he wrote it, and THEN change it to make it my own... ;-) |
