Subject: RE: Obit: Tom Petty (1950-2017) From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Oct 17 - 04:51 PM I always enjoyed his music, and his lyrics were thought-provoking. And he seemed like such a nice guy. I usually think of Tom Petty's music one a year in the spring, when I have the opportunity to drive west down Ventura Boulevard. Tom Petty brought self-respect back to the much-maligned San Fernando Valley. May he rest in peace. -Joe- Free Fallin' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lWJXDG2i0A She's a good girl, loves her mama Loves Jesus and America too She's a good girl, crazy 'bout Elvis Loves horses and her boyfriend too It's a long day, living in Reseda There's a freeway running through the yard And I'm a bad boy 'cause I don't even miss her I'm a bad boy, for breaking her heart [Chorus] Now I'm free - free falling Yeah I'm free - free falling All the vampires walking through the valley Move west down Ventura boulevard And all the bad boys are standing in the shadows And the good girls are home with broken hearts [Chorus] Now I'm free - free falling Yeah I'm free - free falling I wanna glide down over Mulholland I wanna write her name in the sky I'm gonna free fall out into nothing Gonna leave this world for a while [Chorus] Now I'm free - free falling Yeah I'm free - free falling |
Subject: RE: Obit: Tom Petty (1950-2017) From: Stu Date: 02 Oct 17 - 04:53 PM Totally gutted. Was playing Saving Grace on my Strat this afternoon. One of my music heroes, and much to my regret I never got the chance to see him live. RIP Charlie T. Jr. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Tom Petty (1950-2017) From: keberoxu Date: 02 Oct 17 - 05:32 PM This is a shocker. Not that he's too young to die, exactly; but if his health was leaning in this direction, I for one had no clue of it. This is really tough for those he leaves behind. It is something of a blessing for the man himself: he has been spared the ordeal of a lengthy terminal illness, for one thing. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Tom Petty (1950-2017) From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Oct 17 - 06:08 PM As of two hours ago, the Los Angeles Times said there was no official confirmation of Petty's death. Earlier reports of Petty's death were incorrect. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Obit: Tom Petty (1950-2017) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Oct 17 - 08:01 PM The New York Times has also stated that CBS quoted someone from the LA Police Department who spoke incorrectly or out of turn. Today has been bad enough; it would be wonderful after this shock if Petty not only survives but recovers. Pull off a Randy Travis. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Tom Petty (1950-2017) From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Oct 17 - 01:16 AM http://www.tompetty.com/ reports that Tom Petty has died. There was a ray of hope this afternoon that he would survive, but Tom didn't make it. May he rest in peace, and may his music live forever! I'll remember him every time I drive down Ventura Boulevard. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Obit: Tom Petty (1950-2017) From: wysiwyg Date: 06 Oct 17 - 04:57 AM Very sad. His music was so deep in my youth; I'm about his age is why,I guess. "Refugee" spoke to me back then as being about deserving a home and respect; later, as I came to understand european-heritage people's long record of colonialisation and raping of the planet-- and the lethal effect of carbon greed upon people of the global majority. Yes we WILL have to live like refugees, before long. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Tom Petty (1950-2017) From: GUEST,Lin Date: 06 Oct 17 - 10:36 PM Like Pete Jennings said, "Only 66 and so great." It makes me wonder how common it is too have the kind of massive heart attack that Tom had? I wonder if Tom had existing health issues but he was touring just very recently and probably wouldn't have been touring if he had been in bad health. So I can't help but thinking how common it is to just have a massive heart attack or if there are usually other underlying health issues that can bring this sudden attack on? Especially at 66 years old. I mean not young but not really that old either. I can understand if someone is much older then that or is in bad health but Tom seemed to be doing fine in recent months with touring. Sure I know touring can be difficult for anyone - usually not much sleep, and all involved with a big tour, etc. but still wonder if there are usually underlying health issues that can cause a sudden attack. (like the type that Tom had - Massive.) There are heart attacks that many people survive. Sadly Tom didn't survive his even though rushed to the hospital from his home very fast. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Tom Petty (1950-2017) From: GUEST,pauperback Date: 07 Oct 17 - 11:36 PM I suppose the irony is his bands name and the report of a massive heart-attack (surely used as a attention grabber). Condolences to the family. https://theconversation.com/tom-petty-died-from-a-cardiac-arrest-what-makes-this-different-to-a-heart-attack-and-heart-failure-85245 |
