Jeremy the Snail is no more. He apparantly died of natural causes, although I don't get how you can die of natural causes when you live in a refrigerator.

I suggest that the story of Jeremy is another example of what makes the U.K. great.

Maybe he evolved down under in Oz? Don't cyclones go left in the southern hemisphere?

I've never really thought that spinning right (or left) made any sense as a description of direction.

I know some people think that most screws, taps (faucets), and bolts tighten in one direction, and may even remind themselves that it is "Lefty loosey, righty tighty". But that never explains the movement.
If you are turning a screwdriver, one part of the screwdriver is turning to the right, but the other half is turning to the left.

Clockwise, and anti-clockwise (or counter-clockwise) make more sense as descriptive terms as they describe the perceived direction of rotation (to anyone who can remember what an analogue clock-face or watch-face looks like).
While the minute hand moves clockwise, it moves to the right when moving between the 12 and the 3, then moves to the left when moving between the 3 and the 9 before moving right again to move to the 12.
"Clockwise" describes this motion perfectly.

Not a clock as seen in a mirror. Life itself is composed exclusively of left hand molecules. Atoms may spin left or right when entangled.

Watch TV in a mirror and all American cars become English.

All things in our universe go 'through a turbulent mirror'

I remember being confused when told in a dance the people moved round the room clockwise. Is that seen from above or below?

Reading text in a mirror is easy until words exceed 8 letters.

When stringing picture hanging wire I have sometimes mistranslated up from down.

Add one more direction /dimension and try to sense a hypercube, I forget how I got a glimpse the last time I felt successful in seeing a hypercube.

Now without GPS I'm practically lost in space.

Ake, there's a difference between "leftie" and "leftist."

Oh give Ake a break - it was funny.

I remember being confused when told in a dance the people moved round the room clockwise

depends on the dance "Circle Waltz" (eg) the progression is anti-clock. "Chapelloise" we start off anti-clock then dance backwards and return with a mirror manoeuvre*, but the "women"** progress clock. "Old Swan Gallop" the progression depends on which number you are. IMNSHO clockwise refers to "as seen from above" because you can imagine being on the balcony looking down, ie "implied". But unless there is a glass floor and a basement it can't easily be imagined from below. You would get far less women to events on a glass floor methinks.

*French dance, English English spelling.

**blokettes welcome but do try to dance backwards and in high heels.

If it really is 'lefties' few left handed people realize that it is more likely they are the survivor of being twins very early in gestation rather than just being a single fetus and born left handed.
For example Obama was probably one of twins but along the way in the womb he absorbed the other guy. Its pretty common.

Yep sometimes the twin is not entirely incorporated and leaves a vestigial trace. Some people call it a nubbin.

paper towels are absorbent, we recycle.

You are making light of the sad demise of a valued cousin of mine (even if the rest of the family thought he was a bit odd).
