There will be no October Press Room (In Exile or Otherwise) Shanty, Forebitter and Foc's'le Ballad Session in Portsmouth, NH, this Saturday, Oct. 21.

As you know, The Press Room has been closed June, July, and August and is still closed. The GOOD news is that the sale of The Press Room has, at long last, successfully gone through, so renovations can actually procede. They have, though, discovered some problems with the foundation under the back wall.

Rumor (from reliable sources) says they are hoping for a soft re-opening in January.

I've exhausted all the possible temporary venues I can think of, but this afternoon I'm meeting with the manager of the Thirsty Moose about using the downstairs lounge space for the Friday Anglo-Celtic trad session on the Fridays that it's not rented out and I hope to be able to email an update to the list either later tonight or tomorrow.

I'm also trying to organize some music in his hospital room for our reciter extraordinaire, John Duffy, who, while he's in good spirits, is undergoing a serious medical situation.

Anybody else have any ideas where the shanty sing can be held until we're back in our home port? I think we might actually be too SMALL for the Thirsty Moose -- they would have to put on at least a downstairs bartender if we met there. But I WILL enquire. It pretty much HAS to be a Portsmouth location because of where participants come from -- south of Boston and north of Portland.

To paraphrase Barretts Privateers: "I wish I were in Portsmouth now!" Perhaps I'll take some solace in Gloucester Monday evening.

Don, where are they meeting now? And what's the start-end times?

It's been a couple years since Dianne and I joined them at the Dog Bar.

You will have to cut & paste, I couldn't the "blue clicky" thing to work. Parking is problematic, I usually park at the Shaws market and walk back.
