Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Mine Farts was ein Prussian From: Lighter Date: 20 Oct 17 - 10:30 AM Hi, Snuffy. "Mein Vater vas ein Dutchman/ Und mein Mutter vas ein Prussian...." Can't resist pointing out that all these versions come from Hugill, and all are bowdlerized. Hugill seems to be the only collector of the song, but Kipling quotes a related cleaned-up stanza in his 1897 story ".007": With a michnai - ghignai - shtingal! Yah! Yah! Yah! Ein - zwei - drei - Mutter! Yah! Yah! Yah! She climb upon der shteeple, Und she frighten all der people. Singin' michnai -ghignai - shtingal! Yah! Yah! |
