I see Jim is doing a few UK dates starting next week ( I've got my ticket! ).
I wonder how influential Jim's mid-sixties Fontana ( Vanguard US ) release was in the UK?
Certainly, I used to do a few numbers off that album, and I mate of mine (from the 60s) is still doing them!
I was reading Richard Thompson's biography recently and it mentions that an Ashley Hutchings' band in the mid 60s was performing "Washington at Valley Forge". A tune I presume he got from Jim's recording

I enjoy him more now than I did with the Jug Band.

I saw him a year ago in the US and he's still got it. Very enjoyable concert. Also got him to autograph my copy of the jug band's very first album, the one on Vanguard that Tunesmith mentions, I think--there were four Kweskin jug band LPs. It was very influential in the states and initiated a bit of a jug band craze that affected people like John Sebastian who formed the Lovin' Spoonful: "What a Day for a Daydream" is clearly a modern version of a jug band song, and the Rooftop Singers' "Walk Right In" is an actual jug band song from the 1920s. Without Kweskin, those two bands might never have existed.

Jim is playing Hughie Jones'(ex-The Spinners ) club in Liverpool on Tuesday, and on Wednesday he will be doing a session/interview for Radio Merseyside with excellent presenter Spencer Leigh.
I'm not sure when it will be broadcast but it will be available for play-back on the Radio Merseyside website for a few weeks after its aired.

There's a new Jim Kweskin album too, due shortly, "Unjugged". It's coming out on the Hornbeam label.

I saw Jim last night. Great stuff. If you get the chance to see him, grab it.
Great repertoire. Warm, engaging personality.
I had a nice chat with Jim, and I mentioned guitarist/singer John Miller.
Amazingly, Jim hadn't head of him.
I've given a link below to a Youtube video about John, and, interestingly, his music development mirrors Jim's.
Like Jim, John saw Mississippi John Hurt back in the 60s and was seriously smitten.

I was there last night. Jim was great. One thing that struck me about a number of the "old" songs he performed was that the lyrics were very good. Maybe. I hadn't listened too closely when hearing those songs previously.
Thanks, Tunesmith, for the John Miller link. I used to have a few of his albums back in the day. What a great artist, he is.
