Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: Jack Campin Date: 30 Oct 17 - 03:50 AM So? What's special about this? Nobody else uses Mudcat as their personal billboard like that.

Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: Steve Gardham Date: 30 Oct 17 - 04:35 AM >>>Nobody else uses Mudcat as their personal billboard like that.<<< Sorry, Jack, but they do, and I for one see no harm in it. Good luck to you, Dick. I don't often agree with your postings but you do sterling work in the clubs. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: Vic Smith Date: 30 Oct 17 - 04:40 AM One of the purposes of Mudcat is to promote and inform about coming events. I use it for that purpose myself. I see no reason why Jack should be challenging Dick for doing so. If an artist tries to help attendance at a promoter's event then they should be praised, not criticised. As a club and festival organiser, I was always pleased to see artists trying to spread the word about events that I was organising. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: FreddyHeadey Date: 30 Oct 17 - 04:59 AM I'm fine with information on what's coming up. If I post something myself I find there's not a lot of space in the title bar but I try to mention the location and date. "Dublin - Teachers Club" would have been handy & maybe save JC from a wasted click & raised blood pressure. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: Will Fly Date: 30 Oct 17 - 06:02 AM More strength to your arm, Dick - have a good one. I would welcome a "Gigs" section on Mudcat - akin to "Tech", where I could check where 'Catters and others were playing. Most of my gigs are private functions, so not needing advertising, but the odd gig post - such as Horsham Folk Club last night - would be useful. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: GUEST Date: 30 Oct 17 - 06:11 AM Yes, if you're going to advertise a gig, you might as well tell us where it is. Parnell Square could be anywhere - Ireland, England, America, who knows? |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: Iains Date: 30 Oct 17 - 10:18 AM Someone could always start a "what's on" thread by location US, Canada, UK, Ireland, whatever. Might get a few ideas below. http://www.folk-now.co.uk/folktalk/talk2.htm I originally felt uncomfortable seeing threads about performers, but what better forum to advertise? Helping people get attendance to their gigs and making them a few pennies is far more worthwhile than some of the bickering we see on threads here. I say good luck to Dick, and more power to your elbow! and does it ever stop raining in B?al an D? Chab? |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: GUEST Date: 30 Oct 17 - 10:32 AM "Someone could always start a "what's on" thread by location US, Canada, UK, Ireland, whatever." I think Bert tried to manage something along those lines here a while back. My own view is that they soon become virtually "unmaintainable". |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: GUEST Date: 30 Oct 17 - 10:44 AM Ah, I see it's still in the quicklinks this thread. Started further back than I thought btw. Time flies... And it was more for regular events by the looks of things. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: The Sandman Date: 30 Oct 17 - 01:18 PM the club is in Dublin the capital of Ireland |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: GUEST,jojofolkagogo Date: 30 Oct 17 - 03:28 PM Yes, I entirely agree with "Guest" above - pls remember this is a WORLD WIDE web site There is absolutely no point in saying you are 'on' unless you say where !! I once saw a post on here that said something like "the Rascals are at the red lion on Tues" - so has anyone any idea how many red lions there are in any county let alone any country !!! If you wish to inform then please do so!! |

Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: Sarah the flute Date: 30 Oct 17 - 04:21 PM Good luck with the evening Dick. Hope its a great gig for you I'm always posting what my bands are up to for public events as assuming someone out there might want to know or pass it on to others who might want to know! |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 From: FreddyHeadey Date: 30 Oct 17 - 06:06 PM ;-) "....the red lion on Tues" Even worse when people refer to "the Lion" and after several questions you discover they meant the red\white\spotted\olde Lion ....! |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Oct 17 - 09:12 PM I wanted to go to the G?il?n Singers Club a few years back, and there were four Mudcatters waiting there to meet me. I walked and walked and finally found the Teacher's Club, and I was directed to a room where there was a concert raising funds for Palestine. I figured that musc be the G?il?n, but I didn't meet any Mudcatters. Turns out, the G?il?n was in another room. What a wonderful thing for a city, to have a building where two musical events were happening at the same time! I hope your concert goes well, Dick. Is the G?il?n happening at the same time? -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: GUEST,Martin Ryan Date: 31 Oct 17 - 04:26 AM To save confusion - Dick is the Goilin's guest on the night. Regards |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: The Sandman Date: 31 Oct 17 - 05:01 AM Joe , I am appearing the singers club as guest singer, i am not aware of any other concerts at the same time , i will be singing unaccompanied but can use concertina on two songs |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: GUEST,Modette Date: 31 Oct 17 - 06:07 AM I'm pretty sure its the Teachers' Club. One teacher on her own doesnt'c constitute a club. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: The Sandman Date: 31 Oct 17 - 10:35 AM Modette you are correct, for the record i just copied it from their website, so it is their mistake, but well spotted, i would give you a gold star if i could , go to top of the class ,ten out of ten, well done |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: Raggytash Date: 31 Oct 17 - 10:58 AM Don't forget she can give out the inkwells Dick !!! |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: Tattie Bogle Date: 31 Oct 17 - 01:28 PM Have been there just once, on our last trip to Dublin: just round the corner from where we were staying. Fabulous evening, so I'm sure Dick's night will be: well worth seeking out! (Btw, I have no problem with people posting gigs, festivals or anything else on here: it has been done often over the existence of Mudcat, and I have been guilty of same!) |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: GUEST,Guest Date: 31 Oct 17 - 01:30 PM When I was at school the teachers (some of them) used a cane. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: GUEST,Modette Date: 31 Oct 17 - 01:38 PM I think it's very brave for Dick Miles to play the gig without his backing band. Dick Miles |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: Raggytash Date: 31 Oct 17 - 01:43 PM I think he'll be happier playing the gig without his gun!! |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: GUEST,Malcolm Storey Date: 31 Oct 17 - 02:53 PM Strange. The Welly - just about everybody's favourite club these days - posts guest details all the time. No backlash. Dick posts some of his gigs and somebody cribs. Keep it up Dick. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: The Sandman Date: 01 Nov 17 - 03:42 PM Malcolm, hope you are keeping well, I pay no heed to Jack Campin, to me he is summed up here He who has plenty of pepper will pepper his cabbage. Romanian proverb. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: GUEST,Malcolm Storey Date: 01 Nov 17 - 09:28 PM I'm with you Dick on Mr Campin. The year after we retired he became an expert on Whitby having never attended previously. There you go! Keep well. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: bazza Date: 02 Nov 17 - 06:11 AM We visited the Goilin on our Honeymoon in September and had a great time, we were asked to sing and somehow managed a song and we were made most welcome and the next night we were taken to the Bray Singers Club by a very kind couple and had another good night of Singing, well worth a visit, |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: The Sandman Date: 04 Nov 17 - 11:03 AM I had a very enjoyable time, I recommend the club to everybody |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: Herga Kitty Date: 04 Nov 17 - 03:16 PM We had a similar experience a couple of years ago of being made welcome at the Goilin (sorry I can't manage the accents) on a Friday and then at Bray on the following night - with a lift back to our hotel from possibly the same very kind couple...... both lovely clubs! Hope you had a grand time yourself last night Dick! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: The Sandman Date: 07 Nov 17 - 07:58 AM I did. |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: Jim Carroll Date: 07 Nov 17 - 08:17 AM How did you fare without instruments Dick? Jim |
Subject: RE: Dick Miles Nov 3 2017 - Dublin, Teacher's Club From: Tattie Bogle Date: 07 Nov 17 - 02:09 PM The night we went, Grace Toland was the guest: lovely singing. It was the week when it was 30 years since Luke Kelly had died, and very soon after Pete Seeger had also passed away. The MC, Roisin?, asked if there could be a song from the repertoire of each of those 2 singers. We got the Luke Kelly song fairly early on, but still no Pete Seeger song well into the final stretch: so I started into "Where have all the flowers gone?" - the only one I could remember all the words of - and everyone joined in. Happy memories! Will be in Dublin again next March so hope to go back! And our fellas enjoyed the Guinness at very reasonable price! |
