Subject: RE: BS: Boris Johnson and Russia From: Raggytash Date: 05 Nov 17 - 02:32 PM For some reason I tend to have a little more faith with some British journalism, I may be totally wrong and somewhat misguided. Rags like the Socialist Worker, Mirror, Sun, Mail and the Express I am very reluctant to give credence to. Others I will at least consider. |

Subject: RE: BS: Boris Johnson and Russia From: Donuel Date: 05 Nov 17 - 07:31 PM The first thing we do to understand another nation's politics is to look for similarities. They may only seem similar. The real differences are of course in the differences. The only thing we can truly find similar are our mutual enemy, specifically the enemies of Democracy. Iains. you do love your Russian spawned info wars. |
Subject: RE: BS: Boris Johnson and Russia From: Nigel Parsons Date: 05 Nov 17 - 07:43 PM To give a quote, misattributed to Churchill: "Jaw jaw is better than war war." It is better to be in discussions with Russia than to ignore them, and hope that they won't take any actions against us. |
Subject: RE: BS: Boris Johnson and Russia From: Steve Shaw Date: 05 Nov 17 - 08:30 PM The whole of the Cold War was predicated on the threat from Russia. There was never any threat from Russia after 1962 and we scared our people to death and spent a fortune on spurious weapons systems in order to do the job so perfectly predicted by George Orwell in "1984." Russia never was going to take military action against us and never will. Ironically, after all these decades they appear to have discovered a far more effective way of undermining our politics. Clever, eh? Or is it us just being stupid? |
Subject: RE: BS: Boris Johnson and Russia From: Big Al Whittle Date: 05 Nov 17 - 09:04 PM i don't know about that. i heard that after the wall fell, they found plans for a invasion of England. All the intellectuals to be executed, all members of the army, all the politicians even at local level to be arrested. doubtless we had plans for them. i think it was Derek Brimstone who told me. His kids were all in the forces working for NATO at the time. who really knows what's going on at that level. |

Subject: RE: BS: Boris Johnson and Russia From: Mr Red Date: 06 Nov 17 - 03:43 AM If you saw it on Fakebook you know it is propaganda. (Not exactly a proper gander). But then the newspapers (and comics like the Sun) use Fakebook and Twatter so all bets are off. |
Subject: RE: BS: Boris Johnson and Russia From: Rob Naylor Date: 06 Nov 17 - 04:15 AM Steve Shaw/ Big Al: SS:The whole of the Cold War was predicated on the threat from Russia. There was never any threat from Russia after 1962 . BAW: i don't know about that. i heard that after the wall fell, they found plans for a invasion of England. As a geodetic surveyor with an interest in cartography, the very detailed Soviet maps of the UK that came to light a few years ago were a revelation. They were not only more detailed than standard OS maps (giving more information in and around military bases, ports and harbours etc....down to labelling the purpose of some buildings) but also carried the load-bearing capacities and exact dimensions of bridges and tunnels etc. Beautifully made. I have copies of a couple for Kent. They were made after 1962....late 70s or early 80s I'd say, from their content. I find it hard to believe they'd have gone to so much trouble if there were no plans at all, even if just contingency plans, for some sort of invasion/ occupation. |
