If we are being pedantic I think you will find my attribution was accurate enough, moreso than a poorly worded rejoinder.

Knowing the nature of these things the quotation was not worded "as coined by", quite consciously.

There are no longer such things as "sexual misdemeanor." While most, perhaps, do not meet the legal definition of a felony, they they are seen as such in the mind of the public in today's cultural climate. Sorry, but I don't find this thread as humorous as many of you do.

Exposing Sexual crimes have moved from the Clergy to the entertainment industry to Society in general. (except Trump who has caused a backlash)

To catch a predator is one thing. What if it becomes criminal* for any male to initiate sex? Will only women be allowed to initiate sex? Or should Puritanism apply to all?

I've been waiting for this - a discussion of just how journalists decide to go with the stories of women who were assaulted by powerful men - when there were no charges filed or law enforcement agencies involved. There is a process that involves lots of interviews.

It isn't perfect - it sounds like Tavis Smiley got the raw end of things without knowing who is claiming abuse, and PBS, that should know better, isn't saying. There are discussions of who can address this, if Matt Damon is tone deaf (it comes down to the allusion to levels of misbehavior compared to cancer - it's all cancer, just different stages - he doesn't get that.)

I used to teach the police to give all credence to women victims of rape and ignore any initial doubting and banish the notion she was asking for it.
I also included a more humane interview of victims using hypnotic techniques.

I never expected we would ignore due process.

I noticed long since that the law is a Shield for the victim. And Shields are heavy and pack a punch when wielded. Which is not lost on those with an agenda.

And due process is not necessarily needed to achieve an agenda.

I had a coworker who was out to get me for twenty years because I was promoted to a job that he thought he deserved to get. One thing he tried was speaking in ways that implied that I was gay. The first three times, he spoke so only I could hear. The fourth time, he said his thing in front of two other employees. I said, "OK, Rudy, this is the fourth time. I've been keeping notes, and now I've got witnesses." Never heard a peep out of him after that.

I have always been a staunch supporter of gay rights, so maybe that's what started him. His implication that I was gay put me between a rock and a hard place because I'd see nothing wrong if I were gay, but would it be construed as my being anti-gay if I complained against his remarks?

It was awkward, and I'm glad it happened only four times over a few months. I'm glad I was able to shut the bastard down so easily.

So, would that have been a "sexual misdemeanour" in the UK? In the US?

He sounds like a homophobic and bitter person Joe. You handled it well, but shouldn't have had to put up with that.
Here in UK it would have come under misconduct and harassment in the workplace. Also, homophobic remarks are regarded as a crime and the perpetrator can be prosecuted if, as you said, there are witnesses.
It was more than a 'misdemeanour' and not sexual since it involved words not sexual actions.
