Subject: Alternative Title for Jam From: GUEST,Jeff Long Date: 08 Nov 17 - 11:34 PM Could anyone suggest some alternative titles for an Oldtime Jam? Something more Oldtimey? Jam sounds too jazzy and modern. |
Subject: RE: Alternative Title for Jam From: Manitas_at_home Date: 09 Nov 17 - 01:31 AM A term often used in England instead of 'session' is 'tune-up'. |
Subject: RE: Alternative Title for Jam From: Mr Red Date: 09 Nov 17 - 02:54 AM specifically - when I list things on mister.red (mid west of UK) I use the terms that I see the organisers use. it might be: blue grass, old time, American old time, Americana - what it won't be is C&W because there is little cross-over and it is a stretch too far for me. As I have little interest - the task of keeping such data up to date means I am picky - basically if I would want to go to an event - I list. Interestingly using Goggle Translate I got the Danish for jam as marmalade. Which apparently is the word they use for jam (conserve). The word they use for jam (session) is - er - um - jam. |

Subject: RE: Alternative Title for Jam From: GUEST,Lou Judson Date: 10 Nov 17 - 08:02 PM Hootenanny was ONLY used in the USA for folk events and concerts in the 1960s. NEVER rock. It was part of the great Folk Scare and we were far above all that chidlwren's music called rock. Even Peter Paul and Mary joked about it in concert and on records. (You know, those flat back discs with the hole in the middle and grroves on each side?) Yeah, those things. More here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hootenanny |
